(Japanese: デスカーン Desukaan) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Desumasu starting at level 34.

Biology

Physiology

Desukaan is a blue and yellow sarcophagus with red, menacing eyes, with four ebony hands that appear to be shadows. A simply designed face is prominent on the "forehead" of the Pokémon. White, sharp fangs create a taunting smile and flamboyant patterns veil the coffin. It is also made out of gold.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

According to its Pokédex entry in Black, ancient legends once told Desukaan could eat nearby humans and turn their lifeless bodies into mummies. It also has the abiltiy to form two pairs of arms. Its real face is covered up by parts that slide out of the way when it's active.

Behavior

Desukaan imitates an elegant coffin to lure in unsuspecting grave robbers and punish them.

Habitat

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Desukaan are rumored to eat humans, but are known to enjoy the taste of gold.

In the anime

While Desukaan did not appear itself, a replica of its coffin appeared in a Shippou City Museum exhibit in BW014.

Trivia

  • Desukaan is one of the four Pokémon with four arms. The others are Machamp, Graveler, and Ledian.
  • Desukaan has the highest base Defense stat of all Ghost-type Pokémon.
  • Despite its body being covered in pure gold, and that its diet partially consists of gold bars, it is not Steel-type, nor can it learn any Steel-type moves.
    • Its Shiny form appears to be covered in some other metal, although it may be colored gold.
  • Desukaan is the only yellow Ghost-type Pokémon.
  • Although Desukaan is able to learn Nightmare through breeding and Dream Eater through a TM, it does not learn any sleep-inducing moves.

Origin

Desukaan's design is based off a sarcophagus. It was also most likely based on supposedly cursed Egyptian tombs. Any trespassers in the tombs are said to fall under a "curse" from its owner, which is said to cause illness, serious injury, or death. The hype of cursed tombs was made popular when many people in a team of explorers in 1922, who had opened and entered King Tutankhamun's tomb, began dying after the exploration, although the sinister events that followed the exploration were completely unrelated to the mummy. Desukaan's ability to passively turn other Pokémon into mummies that in turn transform other Pokémon into mummies is very similar to the popular culture depiction of the spread of a "zombie virus" in horror films.

Name origin

Its name seems to be a combination of デス desu, death, and 棺 kan, coffin.
