Black (Golden Boys)
Black is a trainer from Johto and a character from the Golden Boys manga series. He is based on the rival character from Pokémon Gold and Silver. He has a strong hatred for what he considers to be "weak" Trainers, such as Gold, as well as Team Rocket, who calls him a traitor.
Despite his low opinion of Gold, they are forced to work together in Gold and Black VS Team Rocket. He defeats Gold in battle at a tournament in Let's Use Fighting Type Pokémon!!, however, his tactics were ruled unfair so Gold was declared the winner. Gold defeats him in battle in The Legendary Pokémon.

Black used Quilava in the tournament in Let's Use Fighting Type Pokémon!!. It is unknown if it is his or he borrowed it.
Released
Black owned Bayleef as a Chikorita. It was his starter Pokémon when he began his journey in Johto. However, he stole the Chikorita from Professor Elm's lab instead of having Elm give it to him. It evolved into a Bayleef prior to meeting up with Gold. During an encounter with Lapras, Black released the Bayleef after it failed to defeat Lapras and Gold took Bayleef in.
Bayleef's known moves are Tackle and Razor Leaf.
Borrowed
Black borrowed an Umbreon from Bill to fight against Team Rocket in Gold and Black VS Team Rocket.
Trivia
- When the Golden Boys manga was released, Black and the Rocket Executive Grey were the only characters named after a color that did not share a name with a main series Pokémon game. However, a fifth generation Black Version was later announced.
