A romance between male and female Nidoran was the focus in EP100. After the battle with Team Rocket, and after kissing Emily's Nidoran♀, it evolved into a Nidorino.

In the manga

Shū caught a Nidoran♂ in Pokémon Getto Da Ze!.

A battle between a Nidoran♂ and Clefairy was how Isamu Akai met his Clefairy in Pocket Monsters.

Yellow Its large ears are always kept upright. If it senses danger, it will attack with a poisonous sting.

Nidoran♂'s name may be based on the word needle. Alternatively, it may be based on 二 ni, two, or 二度 nido, two times/two degrees, referring to there being two distinct evolutionary lines using the name with similar names and traits. The in its name is an indication of its male gender.
