Farfetch'd (Japanese: カモネギ Kamonegi) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Farfetch'd resemble ducks. They have glossy brown plumage with a small crest. It also bears black plumage on its forehead that resembles eyebrows.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Its wings are a bit more versatile than most birds' as their feathers can be used as "fingers," allowing it to carry a leek, or spring onion. The leeks they carry can be used as a weapon, allowing them to use moves like Night Slash, Poison Jab, Fury Cutter, and Leaf Blade.

Behavior

Farfetch'd are always seen carrying a leek stalk, or spring onion. They carry it in their wings, sometimes choosing to hold it in their beaks instead and holding it in their feet when flying. Farfetch'd cannot live without its stick for unknown reasons, and will defend their stick with their life. The stick is also known to be used as nesting material and as a weapon. In case of an emergency situation where the Farfetch'd is starving, it will eat its own stick and hurry off to find a new one.

They are known to be picky in the kinds of sticks they accept. Farfetch'd have been known to fight each other over one 'good' stalk.

Habitat

Farfetch'd are found in grasslands, but it always has to be near water. Farfetch'd are also very good swimmers and are often found swimming in ponds. Farfetch'd are quite rare and are normally caught in Johto, although has been sighted in Kanto and Sinnoh.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Farfetch'd are an omnivorous species and will usually eat weeds and water plants.

Trivia

Origin

Bulbanews
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:

Farfetch'd's origin might have come from a certain Japanese saying: 鴨が葱を背負って来る, literally translating to 'a duck comes bearing green onions'. As a saying, it means 'something surprising but convenient'. The phrase can be shortened simply to 鴨葱.

Name origin

Farfetch'd's name comes from the word far-fetched, which means unbelievable. It could also refer to the game of fetch, which animals play using sticks. Its Japanese name is a combination of 鴨 kamo, wild duck, and 葱 negi, spring onion. Additionally, 鴨葱 kamonegi is an abbreviation of 鴨が葱をしょって来る, literally meaning 'a duck comes bearing green onions' which as a saying means 'something surprising but convenient'.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Porenta A combination of Porree and Ente.
French Canarticho From canard and artichaut.
Korean 파오리 Paori From pa and 오리 ori.
Chinese (Mandarin) 大蔥鴨 Dà Cōng Yā Literally "Big scallion duck".
Chinese (Hong Kong) 火蔥鴨 From 火蔥, Shallot, and 蔥 is the Chinese version of 葱.
