Kricketot (Japanese: コロボーシ Koroboshi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Kricketune starting at level 10.

Biology

Physiology

Kricketot is a large cricket-like Pokémon with a musical voice. It is able to stand on its hind legs and walk using its two short, strong back legs. Kricketot is mainly red in color, with a white collar-like feature across its neck, a white streak down the front of its body, small black limbs and a black "cape". It has two black antennae that are similar to a mustache. The antennae seem to be connected to the body by a dark-red segment, and Kricketot's round nose is also dark red in coloration.

Gender differences

A female has a bigger collar than a male.

Special abilities

They are able to create a xylophonic sound by shaking their head and rubbing their antennae together, which they use to communicate.

Behavior

It chats with others using the sounds of its colliding antennae. As its legs are short, when it stumbles its antennae clack with a xylophone-like sound.

Habitat

Unlike its evolved form, Kricketot cannot be found during the mid-day to afternoon. It usually lives on trees.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Kricketot have been depicted to consume the acorn-like berries growing on the bushes of Grotle.

In the anime

Major appearances

Kricketot's first significant appearance in the anime came in Last Call, First Round!, where one was used by Nando as part of his contest appeal in the Grand Festival.

Minor appearances

Kricketot has appeared fairly often in the anime, however these are mostly fleeting cameos. Kricketot made its anime debut in Dawn Of A New Era!, and later made appearances in A Trainer and Child Reunion!, The Lonely Snover! and Battling a Cute Drama!.

Two Kricketot were seen under Reggie's care in Lost Leader Strategy!. It reappeared in Saving the World From Ruins!.

Several Kricketot also appear in The Rise of Darkrai, playing in the garden amongst the other Pokémon.

A Kricketot made a brief cameo in SS024, outside Professor Rowan's lab.

Multiple Kricketot appeared in Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Trivia

  • Kricketot is less common in the wild than its evolved form, Kricketune: it cannot be found during the day, while Kricketune can.
  • Kricketot has lower base stats than Magikarp, commonly thought to be the weakest Pokémon. However, Kricketot has a more diverse and powerful movepool in Pokémon Platinum.
    • Kricketot could not learn any Bug-type moves until in Platinum with the introduction of the move tutors and that it can now learn Bug Bite through level-up.
  • Kricketot is one of two Generation IV Pokémon to be available through Mass Outbreaks in HeartGold and SoulSilver, the other one being Buneary.
  • Kricketot can learn Struggle Bug by leveling up, but is incompatible with the TM for the same move.
  • Kricketot is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 194.

Origin

Kricketot is based on a cricket and a music conductor.

Name origin

Kricketot is a combination of cricket and tot.

Koroboshi may be derived from kuroboshi tsutsuhamushi (the black-spotted leaf beetle) or a combination of 蟋蟀 koorogi (cricket) and 黒星 kuroboshi (black-spot).

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Zirpurze From zirpen and purze, short form of Purzel.
French Crikzik From criquet and zik.
Korean 귀뚤뚜기 Gwittulttugi
Chinese (Taiwan) 圓法師 Yuán Fǎ Shī Literally "Round master". 法師 may be derived from つくつく法師 tsukutsuku-bōshi.
