Talk:Iris (anime)
infobox
Hey, I was wondering if we could decide of a color for Iris' infobox here? I have a few ideas in mind:
These are just a couple suggestions (the top right hand one is the one that's on the page now and the top centered one is the one I had originally had on the page.) What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? We have lots of time to decide, but we should try to get an agreement on a color design. Personally, I love the top left hand one and the top centered one. I kind of dislike the top right hand one (the colors don't match well in my opinion). The bottom two I'm kinda mutual about. Thoughts?--Skystar 14:17, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe a black and white one, considering it is based on the black and white games? Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 14:21, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Trivia
Should it be mentioned that she's the first female companion since Misty to not be based on one of the games' female player characters? --Goldenpelt 02:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
sounds true
and we might as well add that she's the only anime only female travelling companion too
unless that statement of her being a game character along with Dento is true... Ataro 02:41, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Dento, I'd believe, but we haven't seen any Sugimori artwork of Iris, have we? --Goldenpelt 02:57, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
"Iris"
Other than the direct assumption that "アイリス" is the English word "Iris", "Airisu" is a girl's name that exists in Japanese. It may not be common but 愛麗子, 愛梨子, and 愛里酢 are all "Airisu", much like Kasumi, Haruka, and Hikari are all girls' names in Japan. Is there a source that names her as "Iris" rather than "Airisu"? -Ryulong 20:22, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- This is still Western name "Iris" but with fail Kanji assigned to it. There are dozen of Kanji spellings for name "Maria", but it doesn't make it a traditional Japanese name. Also, I don't get what's with these "sources" lately. Really, what the hell? What kind of "source" would you expect to confirm a romanization of a character? Also, if you want to know why her name can't be derived from Japanese, then just look at her closely. She really doesn't look like a typical Japanese character. That'd be your "source". --Maxim 11:54, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Move to Iris (anime)
Pattern. Plus, I have a sinking feeling that she's not anime-only... TTEchidna 07:54, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Not yet. —darklordtrom 08:14, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Wait and see. First, there's no pattern. We've got Ash Ketchum not Ash Ketchum (anime). The reasons for Brock and Misty being separate pages are practical - their full pages were too long. Even if Iris isn't anime-only, that's still no reason to split her. We don't have to split every character to game, anime and manga self. Also, wait and see. I've got a hunch that she is anime-only and even if she does show up in the games, it'll be just a cameo, unworthy of separate article. But I'm not an admin, my hunches don't matter. --Maxim 08:25, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sinking feeling? Nobody in their right mind would think Iris isn't an anime counterpart of the female player character from Generation V. Trust me, there's no less than a 110% chance that "Iris" is a game-default name. I really don't see how this baloney about Iris being original came about, nobody in their right mind would think that...--Shiningpikablu252 17:07, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Um, excuse me? She looks nothing like the player character of Black and White. Plus, her default name is confirmed and we have an article of her. Besides, I'm sure that most people don't think what you said.--でんのう ☢ Zえんし 17:16, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Pokabu
I think Iris owns a Pokabu. See the trailer. Caciulacdlac 05:56, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Its hard to say... it could be Ash's, it could be Iris's. It could also be that Iris is ALSO going to battle gyms. Note in the preview trailer, it looked like Pokabu was on a gym battle field. I could be mistaken.--Pokemon26 18:55, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- The fact she has not used a Pokabu says that such an edit shouldn't be made. During Shinji's battle with Ash in the Sinnoh League this page left out Electivire in his team even though we all knew it was there simply because it had not appeared in the battle yet. Likewise even if we knew Iris had a Pokabu (the trailer for this week's episode says otherwise) it wouldn't be added until we saw her either catch it or use it. --Gaiash 11:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Game
the rumor that iris is a Game cahracter is in fact true! Ataro 04:57, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Splitting them. Like Misty, May, Dawn, and Brock. TTEchidna 05:05, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- gotcha Ataro 05:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- facepalm* Why? We split Brock and Misty because of purely technical reasons - their articles were too long. We don't imply that they're different characters just as we don't imply that Blue from RBY and FRLG is a different character from GSC/HGSS one despite having his teams split into separate articles. Please, don't apply any patterns where they don't exist. Also, I bet ten bucks that Iris's role in the games will be extremely minor. I'm for re-merge. --Maxim 10:23, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Seriously What about the "Wait till more info comes out plan". BTW I saw Iris in a trailer I saw on Serebii (Iris on the game)--KayKay|Chat to me! 10:26, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Why split them? Dento and Iris will be following Ash for the duration of the BW series. Are you going to argue that Misty's page needn't be split? She only followed Ash for one series. How about May and Dawn? Barry? The game characters will be vastly different than the anime characters, for one, and will definitely be sticking around for near 200 episodes. They will need to be split someday, so why not do it now while the articles are tiny and rarely linked to, unless you wanna volunteer to be the one who relinks them all when we decide "yeah we should've split them" 120 episodes into BW. TTEchidna 00:23, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- IMO, we should base an article on what we know, not what we think will happen. Sure, Dento is a Gym Leader so he'll probably merit two pages eventually, but we don't know a thing about Iris's role in the game ("She has a dragon", which she may not even have in the games, does not automatically relate her to the main quest, which we don't even know that much about...). She may be a mere cameo for all we know, appearing as a random NPC in a city, not doing anything, or just giving away a TM or something. I mean, whatever happened to "wait before it airs" (or in this case "before it releases" too)? I'm not saying your position has no merit, but I think you're taking an extreme position ("Not ever.", as you said over at the Dento page), based on speculation (as likely as it may be; remember we didn't update Ash's Infernape and Torterra pages confirming their evolution after that opening spoiler, even though it was 100% confirmed). And if you're worried about eventual relinking, we could always make Iris (anime) redirect to Iris, link as Iris whenever in an animé context, and if there is an eventual move, we'll be future-proofed.
- And I think I'm treading dangerously into "DON'T mess with the status quo" territory, but I think game and Adventures Koga are more distinct than game and animé Barry. Just my two cents. Memo326 01:10, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Keep in mind, I didn't create a separate page for Iris, but moved the page here just in case. It can always be moved back if she has that small of a role in the games (though her presence at the Dragon Tower in the game and ownership of Kibago in the anime makes me think she will have at least a Dawn-size game role). Since I was splitting Dento, I figured I'd do Iris now rather than later, and save us from needing more edits.
- As for Barry's anime/game split... yes, Barry in the anime is based directly on his game counterpart, but then again, so was Gary. Adventures is kinda iffy as far as more or less everyone goes, too, especially in the Gen I and II series. TTEchidna 02:07, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Splits should be made when there is too much information to keep in one article, not by any patterns. The difference between Misty and Iris is that Misty has a huge history in the franchise with several Pokémon under her name, appearances as a Gym Leader in every generation, a main character role in the anime for 5 years, lots of manga appearances and even trading cards. Wheras Iris... hasn't actually appeared outside of brief previews yet. Obviously, that'll change and she'll probably deserve a split eventually but as a new character the information will easily fit on one page for a while. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 01:00, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Wait is she only a gym leader in the games or both game and anime?RBK 00:52, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- we don't know. She's a gym leader in the games yes, but we won't know for sure until another year or two for the anime, speaking of which shouldn't we cut that part out of her info box for the anime? for all we know in the third game we may be getting a diff gym leader and it's not confirmed wether she'll be a leader in the anime or it's someone different Ataro 00:54, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Semi-Gym Leader in the games: Iris is only going to be a Gym Leader in Black. In White, the Gym Leader in her position is someone named Shaga. Weedle Mchairybug 19:32, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Character info box
Can we have the part where it says she's a GL, from Souryuu City, and her badge is the Legend Badge removed? She's not revealed to be one in the anime yet, is she? Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 18:19, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- This..except for the Souryuu City one....don't forget about Shaga guys...ash could fight him instead of Iris Ataro 18:23, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Unless she claimed she's from Souryuu in the anime, you can't include that either. What if Iris comes from somewhere else and when the anime ends, will stay in Souryuu to live? Not stated = no proof and would then be considered the "dreaded speculation and assumption." Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 18:38, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Running Gag
I feel like theres already a running gag with Iris. Where she thinks a Pokemon is cute and it like's Satoshi instead? Same thing that happens with Mijumaru, happens with Pokabu, Im sure we'll have to wait till a thrid or fourth pokemon does this to her, but I just thought I'd throw that out there. Ya I think your right on the money here.RBK 00:01, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- no........the only running gag she has is calling ash a "kid" everytime he does something stupid (every episode so far)
like Dawn's Daijobu (no need to worry) and May's whatever (can't remember what it was) Ataro 00:12, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Is it just me or...
Is WAY to much being wrote in the history section? She has only been around 4 eps and the section is half the size of of Dawn's I think a lot of this can be cut and be a bit more consice Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 17:00, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
For example In BW003 on their way to Sanyou City they suddenly fall down a hole, but a boy named Dan helped them. He is the owner of a spa, but before Iris could relax, a Meguroco arrives and clutched Kibago in its jaws, but the group were able to get it out. They followed after the Meguroco, who had Pikachu and Mijumaru and hid behind a rock. Later, Ash helped the wild Pokémon off a piece of rock, which was in the middle of hot water caused by a geyser. Ash used a bridge of Meguroco to cross, but the bridge started to fall, and when Ash was about to fall in, Iris grabbed his hand and saved him. In the end the group were treated to a hot spring. __If we wwrote that much on everything Ash or Misty did in every episode they appeared in, Bulbapedia would explode Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 17:03, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Since Iris is Ash's traveling partner...
Since Iris is traveling with Ash, could that mean that Ash is going to battle Shaga? I know that the battle is at least 2 years away. Does anyone else think about this?--Pokemon26 16:42, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's also quite possible that Iris will also unveil herself to be the gym leader by that point. Weedle Mchairybug 17:34, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- Wouldn't be the first time. --AndyPKMN 20:18, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- I think she might become the gym leader during the course of the show. But we won't officially know for a while, that's just the thought that's rummaging through the back of my mind. Please do not put Eileen Stevens on this page unless you have written evidence. The actor who provided the voice Khoury says that Stevens does not voice Iris and that she is voiced by an actress who just joined the dub. So please, wait for the credits or provide me with solid proof. Do not change it otherwise. Thank you. --ケンジのガール 01:29, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Ice-types
I was reading the synopsis of BW031 and it states that Iris says she is afraid of Ice-types, which is most likely a reference to the fact that her goal is to be a Dragon Master. Once we can add trivia, is this notable enough to add? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 00:31, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- It's already in the article. Ataro 00:33, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Also something to do with Ice types, In the episode where she meets Georgia, she doesnt freak out like she does with Vanillite, can this be added? Its like Misty with bug types, she didnt freak out with a Butterfree or Beautifly, but did with a Caterpie?AquaMaster 12:26, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
