The Nintendo DS is Nintendo's latest addition to their handheld line-up. It was released in November 21, 2004 in North America and Japan, and March 11, 2005 in Europe.

Like the Game Boy Advance, it received an updated, more compact design after a while, the Nintendo DS Lite, which has brighter screens and a casing and buttons more similar in design to the Wii. Some features of the DS include:

  • Two screens, one of which is touch-sensitive
  • Audio reception and perception
  • Built in wireless connection via WiFi
  • Backwards compatibility with Game Boy Advance games (though multiplayer functions for GBA games are not supported).
