Trivia

In Pokémon Battle Revolution, when a Pokémon uses a Seismic Toss on a Dugtrio or Diglett, you can see that it lacks a body.

Origin

Dugtrio appears to be very similar to the artificial moles used in the Whac-A-Mole arcade games, as well as Dosojin, a Japanese fertility spirit.

Name origin

Dugtrio's name is a combination of dug, the past tense of dig, and trio, meaning three.

In other languages

  • German: Digdri - Appears to be a combination of dig and tri, as in a prefix that means three.
  • French: Triopiqueur - Trio means a group of three, and piqueur is a word sometimes used to mean the foreman of a mine.
  • Korean: 닥트리오 Dakteurio
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 三地鼠 san di shu ("three ground rodent")
