Story Event - Reach for the Top
- Intro
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | I think I'm gonna go do some training. You can come watch if you want, I guess. |
- Pokémon Center
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | Today let's work on... Oh! I've got an idea! |
Blue | Bonjour, <player>! I was about to go train. You want to join me? |
Flannery | Guess Blue already left... I should go train, too! |
Flannery | I think Blue left to go do some training a little bit ago. If you hurry, you can probably still catch him! |
- Making New Friends with Blue?
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | Whew! I think that's good enough for today's training! How about we head back, Pidgeot? Hm? What's up? Oh, hey, it's <player>! Bonjour! Bad timing! I would have let you battle me if you'd gotten here a little sooner. Oh well. When you're as famous as we are, Trainers'll challenge you every time you walk down the street! Pidgeot needs some rest now. So you do have a heart!: Of course I do! What kind of Trainer would I be if I didn't take care of my Pokémon?! Good thinking!: Thanks! You've gotta get plenty of rest if you want to be on your A game. That goes for Pokémon AND for Trainers! Hm? What is it? Ohhh... I know that look in your eye. You want me to give you some tips on battling, don't you. All right! First, let me introduce you to some other Trainers that are here on Pasio! |
Blue | Hey! Flannery! Torkoal! |
Flannery | Oh, hey, Blue! You're here, too, <player>? What's going on here? |
Blue | Wait, you two know each other? |
Flannery | Of course! We're on a team, after all! |
Blue | Whoa, look at you! Sounds like you've already got a pretty good team going, don't you, <player>! It's no easy feat to get a strong Trainer to acknowledge you as a teammate, so good going! Of course, she's not as good as me, but... |
Flannery | You just had to keep talking, didn't you. Well, you implied that I'm a strong Trainer, so I'll take the compliment. |
Blue | I wanted to introduce you two, but if you already know each other...I guess we can move on! |
- A Thorny Reunion
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | There she is. Heeey! Misty! |
Misty | Hey, Blue! Hey, <player>! Oh, and Flannery, too? What are you all up to? Doing some training? |
Blue | ... ... ... Don't tell me... You're on <player>'s team, too, aren't you, Misty. |
Misty | Yup! <player>'s been working super hard to grow strong for the team! Brock and I made sure to teach him/her the basics. He's/She's got a real knack for Pokémon battling. |
Blue | Hm, I see... Of course, if I were on the team, too, he/she would be even stronger. |
Misty | Hey! Are you trying to say I'm a bad teacher? |
Blue | I'm just saying...he/she could learn a lot more from a stronger sync pair. |
Misty | Ugh! I guess some things never change. You think you're better than me. Just admit it! |
Flannery | Hey, guys, I don't feel right saying this, but let's cool down a bit! Why not just settle this with a Pokémon battle? |
Blue | I'm game for that! But just a normal battle would be boring... There are a bunch of event matches going on all over Pasio right now for the PML. I heard one of them is a team-on-team elimination battle... You interested? |
Misty | That kind of feels like a roundabout way of solving things, but all right! Challenge accepted. I guess it'll be more fun to settle this with a bang. Let's do it! |
Blue | All right! Then <player> and Flannery are with me! |
Misty | Wait, why do you get <player> on your team?! |
Blue | Because he/she can learn more that way. |
Misty | You really are a piece of work, aren't you... Fine, then I'll make my own Water-type team that'll knock your socks off! |
Flannery | This is getting pretty intense! I like it! |
- The Final Showdown Awaits
Name | Text |
---|---|
Blue | You guys aren't bad! I didn't think you'd be able to keep up with me! Not a bad team we have here! |
Flannery | No kidding! We even made it to the finals! |
Blue | Huh, it looks like I just got a Poryphone message from Misty... Wait—what?! |
Flannery | What's wrong? |
Blue | She lost?! There's somebody in this tournament that could beat Misty? I thought that she and her Starmie would easily make it to the finals. So you admit that she's good./You had faith in her, didn't you.: She's the Cerulean City Gym Leader. It's only common sense she would make it to the finals. |
Misty | Aww, man... I'm so bummed I lost that battle. I guess I won't be battling you in the finals after all. |
Flannery | Misty! What happened?! |
Blue | You got sloppy, didn't you. |
Misty | I'm just gonna pretend I didn't hear that... We had fun, and that's what matters. By the way, the guy that beat me had a message for you! He said he wants a rematch with you, Blue. |
Blue | A rematch?! You mean I've battled this guy before? |
Misty | Oh, you'll know him when you see him... Watch out, though. He's strong! I guess I'll see you at the arena in a bit! I'm not missing this! |
Bruno | I've been waiting for you, Blue! |
Blue | Ahhh, Bruno. So you're the one who beat Misty, huh? Guess that's to be expected from a member of the Indigo League Elite Four. |
Bruno | It is all a result of my perseverance training from before and during my time on Pasio. |
Blue | ... |
Flannery | Indigo Elite Four?! Oh man, I have to put my game face on! |
Blue | Good call, Flannery. Bruno is the real deal. Flannery, <player>, time to get serious! |
Bruno | Get ready for our superior power! Hoo hah! |
- Those Who Seek the Ultimate Strength
Name | Text |
---|---|
Bruno's Apprentice | We...lost?! To these children?! We went through arduous training with Master Bruno... We even beat a Gym Leader! |
Bruno | This is nothing strange. They were just stronger than us. And as long as you underestimate them as children, that means you still harbor hubris in your heart. Team battles aren't about the power of each individual pair but of how well those pairs work together. Blue, Flannery, and <player> unleashed their true potential as a team. |
Blue | You're right, Bruno. It's true. You guys are all strong sync pairs... but my team went a step further, making sure we covered each other's weaknesses. Flannery, <player>... I think that battle was the best this team has done yet! Good job, guys! |
Bruno | It's our loss. Blue, you are a really impressive Trainer. No matter the situation or predicament, you strive to be the best there is, and you have the tenacity and serenity to actualize that desire. I have trained to the absolute limit. But perhaps you have the power to surpass that limit. |
Blue | I know a guy that I don't want to lose to. And I know that he continues to get even stronger. That's why I can't afford to stop. That's why I want strong Trainers to battle. So if you ever want another rematch, just let me know! |
Bruno | I shall train more and challenge you again. |
Flannery | So that's what makes you such a strong Trainer, huh, Blue? I gotta work harder, too! Hey, Bruno! Can I train with you? |
Bruno | Of course! We can start immediately! |
Blue | Well, I guess that means our little impromptu team is disbanding. It's been fun, <player>. I had fun, too!: Heh! Glad to hear that. You know you're on the right track if you're able to have fun. I learned a lot!: Make sure you remember how strong Pidgeot and I are, all right? Here's hoping we can see each other again at some other tournament event. I have no intention of losing, so if you keep moving up the ranks, I'm sure we'll end up battling each other one way or another. I look forward to seeing how strong you become! |
Story Event - The Girl in Black and White
- Intro
Name | Text |
---|---|
Hilda | Come on, <player>! Let's go! Time to get our team in perfect sync, and battle it out nonstop! |
- Pokémon Center
Name | Text |
---|---|
Hilda | I'm totally craving a Casteliacone... |
Hilda | Having different battle styles means you can cover each other's weak points! It's part of what makes battling on a team so great! |
- The Sweets Festival!
Name | Text |
---|---|
A long line of eager customers queued up in front of one of the festival's best sellers, the famous Casteliacone from Castelia City. | |
Hilda | Just a little farther, <player>! We're almost to the front! It's been ages since I've had a Casteliacone. I'm so excited! |
Roxanne | Are they really that good? |
Hilda | They really, really are! Watch, one bite and you'll be addicted! Plus, they're made to look like Vanillite, so they're really cute, too! |
Roxanne | Oh, I already know what they look like! I did some research before coming here today. I want to know how they taste. What about the texture? Are they more creamy or airy? What do you like most about Casteliacones? |
Hilda | Wow, I didn't realize you were that interested! Why the sudden curiosity about Casteliacones? |
Roxanne | I want to figure out why certain things become popular. What is it about them that makes so many people go crazy? It's important to be eager to learn, no matter what the topic is. The same goes for applying that knowledge to your Pokémon battles. |
Hilda | You really love learning, huh! As for Casteliacones, I think tasting one for yourself will be a lot more helpful than asking me to describe them. Plus, it'll be more fun that way! Am I right? |
Roxanne | I...suppose that's true. All right, then! I'll look forward to tasting one myself! |
Masked Woman | Hehe! Look, a gap in the line just for me! Guess today's my lucky day! |
Roxanne | Excuse me! What do you think you're doing? Cutting in line is against the rules. |
Masked Woman | Who cares! What's the big deal, anyways? You can't expect me to wait in line for hours just for some dumb ice cream. |
Hilda | D-dumb ice cream? Dumb ice cream?! Casteliacones are famous! They always sell out immediately, even in Castelia City, where they're originally from! Waiting in line for hours to get your hands on one is part of what makes it so delicious! You really don't get it at all, do you?! |
Masked Woman | Sheesh! Somebody woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning... |
Roxanne | Regardless, I won't tolerate rule-breaking! Now march yourself right to the back of the line. |
- Plan vs. Action
Name | Text |
---|---|
Masked Woman | Ugh! Fine then! I'll go to the back of the dumb line. Happy?! |
Roxanne | The two of you are quite strong, aren't you... I'm impressed! Although...your battle style is a bit on the reckless side. |
Hilda | What?! I wouldn't call it reckless. How will you know if something's gonna work or not if you don't jump in there and give it a try? Traveling around the Unova region taught me to take the initiative. If you stop and think for too long, sometimes you end up missing your chance. What I'm trying to say is that it's good to take action! You can always reflect on things later. That's how I intend to raise my Tepig—from now until she evolves into a fiery Emboar! |
Roxanne | Interesting... I guess I've never really thought of it that way. |
Hilda | What's your stance, <player>? I prefer to take action!: I thought you'd say that! I've always felt like we were pretty similar in that regard! |
Roxanne | I prefer to think first, act later!: I knew you'd say that! Great minds think alike, <player>. |
??? | Pardon me... |
Pokémon Ranger | If you're not busy at the moment, do you want to have a Pokémon battle? I was watching you battle earlier, and now I'm itching to fight! |
Roxanne | Oh, really? Well, maybe another battle will help Hilda see sense when it comes to the importance of good planning. |
Hilda | Or it'll help Roxanne realize that taking action is more important than planning everything out! You're on! |
- Thorton's Proposal
Name | Text |
---|---|
Hilda | That was awesome, <player>! Another win for us! |
Roxanne | My thorough planning and calm, cool analysis seem to have done the trick. |
Hilda | And I knocked down the competition with brute strength! |
Roxanne | When it comes to battle style, we really are complete opposites, aren't we... But we managed to win despite that. I don't understand— |
Thank you for waiting, but we've just sold our last cone for the day! We are now sold out! | |
Hilda | What?! H-how could they sell out so soon?! |
Roxanne | But we've waited all this time! I can't believe we missed out. |
Hilda | Shoot! I was really looking forward to having a Casteliacone today. |
??? | Bzweeeeep! |
Roxanne | Um, can I help you with something? |
Thorton | Oh, don't mind me. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to perform an analysis on your Pokémon. Your battle earlier has me quite intrigued. |
Hilda | Huh?! Analysis? You didn't even ask us first! |
Roxanne | Hey, look! He's got four Casteliacones! |
Hilda | WHAT?! |
Thorton | Oh, these? I bought them for an experiment. I plan to feed them to Pokémon and observe their responses. Why, do you want them? I guess I could let them go if you agree to battle me instead. |
Hilda | Are you serious?! |
Thorton | Collecting data from your Pokémon is worth more to me than a few ice cream cones. This will be fun. I look forward to analyzing all of the data later. |
- Synergy beyond Analysis?!
Name | Text |
---|---|
Thorton | Whoa! Whoa! You're even more impressive than I thought! |
Roxanne | We did it! That was some excellent teamwork! |
Hilda | It's like we were totally in sync! We make such an awesome team! The question is how, though, right? Our battle styles are still polar opposites. |
Thorton | Hmm, this can't be right... My data-interpreting machine was just reading at 78% a moment ago. Oh, don't mind me! Just mumbling to myself... You can just ignore that number. It seems my data analysis was insufficient to keep up with the movements and commands of you three and your Pokémon. A sub-optimal performance indeed... I stand defeated. |
Hilda | Wait, are you saying we were so in sync that we broke your machine? How awesome is that! |
Roxanne | Our styles may be totally different, but when we were battling together, it felt like something just clicked. |
Thorton | I'd have to collect a lot more data to be sure. I think there's something else at work here...something that can't be expressed in numbers. Ah, that reminds me. Four Casteliacones in exchange for a battle, as promised. |
Hilda | Woo-hoo! Finally! |
Roxanne | Thank you, Thorton! Wait... Oh no! |
Hilda | NOOO! They're totally melted! |
Thorton | Oh. Well, that's unfortunate. Though that is to be expected with ice cream. |
Roxanne | I can't believe this... After all that buildup, I don't even get to taste one? Wait—pause! Melted or not, the ingredients are all still there. Melting shouldn't change the flavor, right?! |
Hilda | I...guess so? Maybe? Why don't we just come back again tomorrow and wait in line for a good, not-melted one? We'll have plenty of time to chat while we wait. Maybe we can get to know each other a little better! |
Roxanne | That's not a bad idea. Like you said before, waiting in line is part of what makes Casteliacones delicious, right? I'm sure they'll taste even more amazing after spending all that time with you and <player>! |
Story Event - The Importance of Elegance
- Intro
Name | Text |
---|---|
Caitlin | I could use a pick-me-up right about now. A magnificent battle or two should do the trick... Would you care to join me, dear? |
- Pokémon Center
Name | Text |
---|---|
Caitlin | Now that I'm awake, a battle would be nice. |
Caitlin | What does it really mean to be elegant? Would you care to find out? |
- Heart of Elegance
Name | Text |
---|---|
As usual, <player> didn't have to wait long to be challenged to a battle. This time, his/her opponents looked particularly strong. | |
Ace Trainer | C'mon, team! These guys are nothing to panic over. This battle's gonna be ours! We won't lose to you!/Attack with everything we've got, team! |
Caitlin | Well, fancy running into you here, <player>. Lovely battle. I saw you fighting out of the corner of my eye as I was walking into town, and then I found I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I do have to point out one thing, though... You could stand to win your battles with a touch more elegance, if I had any say in the matter. Elegance?/What did I do wrong?: A Trainer must always remain calm and collected. We must present an image of dignity, refinement, and grace. That, my dear, is elegance... Once you find peace and gain a bit of emotional leeway, you begin to see things you couldn't before. If you wish to fully utilize your skills in battle, elegance is of the utmost importance. |
??? | Hey, you two aren't talking about fashion without ME, are you?! |
Candice | I heard something about grace and elegance... Well? What's the gossip? I want to know all the juicy details! |
Caitlin | I think you may have misheard us. I wasn't talking about fashion... I was just teaching my dear friend here that elegance is of the utmost importance when it comes to Pokémon battling. |
Candice | Gee, do you really think so? I guess I've never thought about elegance like that before... Now I'm curious! |
Caitlin | Very well. Perhaps I can show you both how grace and elegance can elevate one's prowess in battle... |
Candice | Oh, perfect! I'll watch super closely—Pokémon battling is all about focus! |
- All about Focus!
Name | Text |
---|---|
Caitlin | Well done, both of you. That battle was quite splendid. |
Candice | I just focused as hard as I could, as always! It's what I'm best at! |
Caitlin | I don't think I would choose the word "elegant" to describe you in that battle... but you certainly had an air of strength and toughness about you. I could feel your energy across the battlefield. |
Candice | Oh wow! Yeah! You were probably feeling that Candice focus that I'm known for! Pokémon, fashion, romance... It's all about focus! My Abomasnow's focus is always top-notch, too! |
Caitlin | Tee-hee! It's a style that suits you and your partner very well, I think. I used to be unable to control my own emotions or the psychic powers I possess. Whenever I lost a battle, they would spin entirely out of control... So much so that I was once forbidden from battling at all. All of that changed when I began interacting with Psychic-type Pokémon. They are able to manipulate their power at will, you see. With their help, I learned to keep my negative emotions at bay. I learned how to remain calm, elegant, and at peace in any battle. I take great pride in my elegance, but I must admit that your focus has piqued my interest quite a bit, Candice. |
Candice | Well gee, I'd still love to learn more about elegance, too! Sounds like we should do a lot more battling together! |
- The Beat! The Passion!
Name | Text |
---|---|
Caitlin | Well, <player>? Would you say that was an elegant battle? |
Candice | What about me? Did you see how focused I was? |
Caitlin | Very elegant, Caitlin!: Naturally. I do my best to make every battle as graceful and refined as an elegant dance. |
Candice | Very focused, Candice!: I know, right?! I just kept telling myself there was no way I could lose—wished for it from the bottom of my heart! |
??? | Hey! Just wanted to say your battle just now was suuuper rad! |
Roxie | What's all this about elegance and focus, though? Did I miss something, or... |
Caitlin | Well, you see... |
Roxie | Ahh, I think I get it now... You want my honest opinion? After watchin' you guys battle... I don't think elegance OR focus are what's really most important when it comes to Pokémon battling. |
Candice | Well, what IS then? With enough focus, you can pretty much do whatever you set your mind to! It's the best! |
Caitlin | I'm interested to hear what you have to say. Do go on. |
Roxie | Well, in MY opinion, it's gotta be the beat! The passion! You start riffin', you build up a killer rhythm, and then BAM! You smash your opponents in the face with it! |
Candice | The...beat? Not focus or elegance? Can beats be elegant? |
Caitlin | Passionate beats... Um... You've lost me, I'm afraid. |
Roxie | I guess it's kinda hard to put it into words... Let's just skip 'em! C'mon! I'll make you guys FEEL what I mean instead! I'll show you a Pokémon battle so wild it'll blow your mind! |
- Strength and Kindness
Name | Text |
---|---|
Roxie | Gahh! What's goin' on, Roxie?! You weren't supposed to lose! *sigh* Guess I blew my chance at showin' you guys what I was talkin' about. |
Caitlin | I wouldn't say that. It's true that we won the battle this time... but you certainly made an impression! Your attacks were like a raging rapid, threatening to knock me down at any moment. |
Candice | Caitlin's right! You were seriously impressive! I felt like we were an inch from losing through the whole thing! |
Roxie | Really? But what about the beat? Did you feel the BEAT?! |
Caitlin | As a matter of fact, I believe I did feel it. And after this last battle with you, I think I finally understand... When it comes to Pokémon battling, each and every Trainer has their own belief about what is most important—it's individual to them. And I think that's lovely. It's our differences that make us so interesting. |
Roxie | I guess you've got a point. When I'm playin' music, sometimes it's less about the beat and more about just chillin' and enjoyin' myself. |
Candice | Yeah! I know not everybody is as superfocused as I am... but more often than not, it's easy to tell when somebody really cares about their Pokémon and how much battling means to them. |
Caitlin | In other words, a Trainer should never push others to follow their own personal methods...even if they believe they are correct. <player>... It didn't really come up in our conversation before, but after what I witnessed today... I would say that you seem to value kindness more than anything else when it comes to Pokémon battling. You shine with both kindness and strength in every battle you compete in... I saw that very clearly today. I should thank you, <player>. For helping me learn a valuable lesson today. I should be the one thanking you!: You're too kind. Really, I feel as though you all have shown me an entirely new world. It was a lot of fun!: Indeed. Really, I feel as though you all have shown me an entirely new world. Something tells me I'm going to have very sweet dreams tonight, thanks to you. I can't wait to see what I dream about... |
Story Event - Rosa's Party
- Intro
Name | Text |
---|---|
Rosa | Hi, <player>! I'm thinking of throwing a holiday party for everyone! I want to have yummy food I make myself at the party, and I think I found a way to learn how to make some! But I'm gonna need your help! What do you say? Wanna team up and spread some holiday cheer with super yummy food?! |
- Pokémon Center
Name | Text |
---|---|
Rosa | I wanna cook some good food and make people smile! |
Rosa | Maylene told me there's a legendary chef here on Pasio and he's looking for an assistant chef right now! What better way to learn how to cook than to be taught by a master chef?! Ready to polish your skills in the kitchen? I sure am! |
- The Legendary Chef
Name | Text |
---|---|
Rosa | Hey, Maylene? Are you sure this is the spot you heard Chef Siebold would be? |
Maylene | Yep! My sources tell me he's a legendary chef who's looking for an assistant on Pasio...and my sources don't lie! |
Rosa | All right, then! Let's go find him! He should be around here somewhere... |
Maylene | You know, you really are amazing, Rosa! |
Rosa | Huh? Wh-where'd that come from? |
Maylene | The fact that you thought of throwing a party for all your teammates and you want to give everyone a home-cooked meal... and you want to go study under a top-notch chef so that everything's perfect... I mean, you're really going the extra mile! |
Rosa | Y-you think so? I just figured that if I was gonna cook for everyone, I should make something tasty. |
Maylene | And that's what's so amazing about you! Let me know if there's anything you need help with, OK? |
Rosa | Thanks, Maylene! I know I can always count on you. |
Maylene | Anytime! I'm bummed we haven't run into Siebold yet, though... |
??? | Hey... Did you just say Siebold? |
Rosa | Oh, hello! You wouldn't happen to know where we could find him, would you? |
Black Belt | I believe he should be just up ahead... But tell me, do you seek to train under Siebold as an apprentice as well? |
Maylene | Apprentice... If you're talking about the assistant chef position, then yes! |
Black Belt | Hmph... That changes things. I am afraid this is the end of the road for you. |
Rosa | Huh?! What's that supposed to mean? |
Black Belt | Many hopeful applicants, myself included, have traveled here today for the chance to learn the techniques of a legendary chef. However, I heard that Siebold only wishes to take on a single apprentice... Therefore, I must kick my rivals out of the running here and now. |
Rosa | No way... I'm not gonna give up and go home before I've even had the chance to meet Chef Siebold in person! |
Black Belt | Errgh! Then you leave me no choice... The path to becoming a master chef is a brutal one. Leave now, or I will strike hard and without mercy! |
Maylene | Come on, Rosa, <player>! Let's take him on! We can't let bullies like him go unchecked! Besides, I'm a martial artist myself! It would be dishonorable to run away from a challenge! |
- A Chef's Philosophy
Name | Text |
---|---|
Siebold | Ahh, new customers. Welcome, welcome! |
Rosa | A-actually, um, I'm here to apply to be your assistant chef, Siebold! |
Siebold | Ah, I see. I didn't realize you were a candidate. Well then, I have one question for you... I've asked this question to everyone who has applied for the position so far, and that is...why do you wish to work with me? |
Rosa | Well... This is something I want to do for my friends. |
Siebold | Is that so? |
Maylene | Yep! Rosa's throwing a party for her friends, and she wants to serve everyone delicious home-cooked food. |
Rosa | That's why I want to be your assistant chef—so I can learn to cook something fantastic! |
Siebold | What delightful ambition! I can tell you have a knack for service and hospitality. |
Maylene | Does that mean you'll take her on?! |
Siebold | Well, she's passed the interview portion of the application, but now I'd like to see what she's capable of in action. |
Rosa | In action... You mean you want me to show you what cooking skills I already have? |
Siebold | No, no. I'd like to see your Pokémon battling skills in action! |
Maylene | Huh? A Pokémon battle?! What does Pokémon battling have to do with cooking? |
Siebold | Everything! The two may seem different on the surface, but deep down both are forms of art that share the same philosophy. The end results only last for a few brief, passing moments, so we devote ourselves to making those moments last in our memories forever. |
Rosa | So your theory is...if you watch me battle, you'll understand my philosophy on cooking, too? |
Siebold | Precisely. Now, the final question is...will you indulge my curiosity? |
Rosa | To be honest, I'm still pretty confused about all of this, but I'll give it a shot! I guess my philosophy is...to always put my heart and soul into every battle. I'll do my best! |
Siebold | I'd expect nothing less! Now, prove it to me in action! |
- The Other Chef
Name | Text |
---|---|
Siebold | What a delectable battle. Well done! Your love and passion shined through each and every move. |
Rosa | Does that mean... |
Siebold | You're hired! I'd be delighted to have you on as an assistant chef, Rosa. |
Rosa | Really?! This is so amazing! Thank you so much! |
Siebold | The pleasure is all mine. Now, shall we go ahead and start prepping for— |
??? | Hey there! I heard you're in need of a talented cook! |
Siebold | Hm? And you are...? |
Mallow | Mallow here, at your service! I came to apply for the open assistant chef position! |
Siebold | Ah, another candidate! My deepest apologies, but the position has already been filled. |
Mallow | What?! You already hired someone?! Aw, darn... I was really hoping I'd get the chance to train under a legendary chef... |
Siebold | Thank you for coming out, but I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. |
Mallow | W-wait a sec! I came all this way... Could we at least have a battle? You could do that for me, couldn't you? I'm not asking much! |
Rosa | Wow, you really won't take no for an answer, will you? |
Mallow | I just want to see if my skills are good enough to get the stamp of approval from a legendary chef! C'mon, pleeease? |
Siebold | Hmm... I sense you have a very frank, forthright passion for your craft... It would be wrong of me to simply turn you away. I accept. What sort of battle do you propose? |
Mallow | I want a Pokémon battle and a cooking battle... Er...cook-off? Yeah, a cook-off! And I'm gonna go all out for both! |
Siebold | All right. If you want to prove yourself that badly, then Rosa and I have no choice but to accept your challenge with utmost hospitality. In fact, I had a few uniforms imported to Pasio in case a situation like this were to arise! Rosa, could you fetch them for me, please? Let's put them on and give Mallow here the full-service Pokémon battle she deserves! |
Rosa | R-right away, Chef! |
Mallow | All right. I'm ready when you are! Time to serve up a Super Mallow Special! |

Rosa | Wow, this uniform's a little...flashier than I expected. And where'd this Delibird come from? |
Siebold | Huh. It must be a stowaway from the parcel our uniforms were sent in. I'm not sure how it got here...but it may be just what we need. Hospitality is the most important quality of any good chef, and if there's any Pokémon that knows the true meaning of hospitality, it's Delibird. If you spend some quality time with Delibird, its kind, charitable nature may rub off on you. It can help you grow as a chef! Octillery has opened my eyes to a whole new realm of culinary possibility since we first met... Perhaps it will be the same for you. |
Rosa | The true meaning of hospitality, huh... All right! Delibird and I are gonna be best friends in no time! Let's do our best, partner! |
Mallow | Phew! You really crushed it in that battle back there. If your team were a meal, it would be a pretty tasty one! Speaking of which, can we move on to our next battle now? Er—I mean cook-off! I'll go prepare my dish first! So? What do you think of my dish?! I call it the special Z-Set! Olivia and Hau are huge fans of it back in Alola. |
Rosa | I, uh... Um... It's a little...different than what I was expecting. |
Maylene | Y-you don't say... I can tell Mallow really put her heart into it. What else is there to say except...mmmm! |
Siebold | Yes. It's certainly an acquired taste... I taste intense creativity—a flavor that immediately gets my brain buzzing. *gasp* Goodness gracious! I just thought of a new recipe! I need to begin prepping right away. No, wait! I lack the ingredients to fully execute it right now. First, I'll have to gather everything I need. |
Mallow | Are you gonna go shopping for ingredients now? That sounds like it could take a while. Why don't I cook up another dish in the meantime? It'd be my pleasure! |
Maylene | What? Oh, no... You're too kind. |
Rosa | Uhhh... I'm gonna go help Siebold with the shopping! I am his assistant chef, after all. See you later! |
Maylene | W-wait! I can help you, too! |
Siebold | Would you mind staying back to help Mallow, <player>? We'll be right back! |
Mallow | C'mon, <player>! Let's get cooking! I'm feeling a Super Mallow Special coming on! |
Rosa | We'll leave you two to it, then! Thanks! |
Rosa | Phew! That cook-off definitely took a turn I wasn't expecting... That battle was really something else, though! I feel like it sparked a new passion for cooking in me! I'm gonna keep working hard and learn whatever I can from Siebold. This party's gonna rock your socks off. I promise! But before that... Here! I've got a little surprise for you as thanks for helping me out today! I hope you like it, <player>... Thank you!: Tee-hee! You're welcome! I was afraid you wouldn't like it. You shouldn't have!: Tee-hee! I've been keeping it a secret. It's thanks to you that I was able to become Siebold's assistant chef and sync up with such an adorable new partner. This is just my way of letting you know how superduper grateful I am! So thank you, <player>! I hope you have tons of fun at my party, too! |

Rosa | Hey, <player>! Did you have a good time at my party? I actually have another little surprise for you. A kind of...after party, you could say! Can you guess what it is? Surprise! It's a special Pokémon battle—one that I put all my love and joy into! Siebold and Delibird have taught me all about hospitality and taking care of others. It's time for me to take care of you through a Pokémon battle! I mean, I've been wanting to battle against you again for a while now... This gives me the perfect excuse! Tee-hee! I'll go get everything ready for us, OK? Meet up with you later! |
- The After Party

Rosa | I dunno if I've ever told you this before, but Pokémon battling with you is so much fun, <player>! You make battling so exciting! I felt so giddy after that last one— Wait! Uh-oh... I'm the one who's supposed to be showing YOU hospitality, not the other way around! Don't worry—I had fun, too!: OK... As long as it's not just me soaking up all the fun! Do you want to battle again?: Oh, I think I've had my fair share of battles for the day! Thanks, though! It seems like everyone had a really great time at the party in the end, too! I'm so glad I decided to host it! I hope we can do all of this again sometime, <player>! |
Story Event - Two Champions
- Intro
Name | Text |
---|---|
Lance | I'm Lance, dragon master and Champion of the Indigo League! I never refuse a challenge! |
Cynthia | I'm Cynthia, Champion of the Sinnoh region. It sounds like I have some interesting battles to look forward to! |
- Pokémon Center
Name | Text |
---|---|
Cynthia | What should I do today...research or battle? |
Cynthia | Seeking to better myself is much more important to me than being the strongest. And having fun while battling is the most important of all! |
Lance | Right, then... Time for our daily training session. |
Lance | Seeking to be the greatest and most powerful sounds like seeking perfection... But the truth is, we always have room to grow and improve. |
- Abuzz about Champions
Name | Text |
---|---|
As one might expect, the arrival of yet another Champion instantly became the hottest topic on the island. Lance's arrival was being heatedly discussed by excited passersby as <player> and his/her friends were walking through town. | |
Scientist | When it comes to dragon masters, Lance is number one. It's simply indisputable! He's the most powerful Trainer on the Indigo Plateau! No one can block his Dragonite's Hyper Beam! It's a proven fact! |
Rising Star | Nuh-uh! It's Cynthia who's number one! She's not limited to Dragon types like Lance. She can triumph with Pokémon of ANY type! Her Garchomp is a Dragon type, sure, but it's also an ultrapowerful Ground-type Pokémon! |
Scientist | That's preposterous! Come, child—just accept the fact that Lance is the greatest! |
Cynthia | No way! Cynthia is the best! Nothing you say is gonna convince me otherwise, OK?! |
Rosa | It's crazy how many people are obsessing over Lance and Cynthia right now... Champions sure know how to create a buzz! Seems like everyone on Pasio is talking about them. You heard about Lance's arrival, too, didn't you, <player>? Lance and Cynthia...two Champions...both with Dragon-type Pokémon as their partners. You have to admit, they make a pretty exciting matchup. I mean, who wouldn't be curious to see who'd win in a battle between them? What's your stance, <player>? Which Champion do you think is stronger? Lance, for sure.: Lance, huh? Interesting... He's definitely made a name for himself as a dragon master, and he's good at what he does. But Cynthia's no pushover! She's a master when it comes to unleashing the full strength of her Pokémon, regardless of type! Definitely Cynthia.: Cynthia, huh? They say she's a master when it comes to unleashing the full strength of her Pokémon, regardless of type. But Lance is no pushover! He's made a name for himself as a dragon master. I hear he and his Dragonite do superintensive training! I'm so curious... Which one of them is actually the strongest? |
??? | Ah, so that's what all the ruckus is about. |
Rosa | Cynthia! |
Cynthia | I've been feeling eyes on me wherever I go recently... At first I thought there must be some kind of hideous rumor going around about me. But I suppose Lance's arrival solves that mystery. I'll admit, I'd be interested in meeting him, if the opportunity presents itself. |
Rosa | Really?! Well then, why don't we— |
Rising Star | *gasp* Oh my gosh! It's C-Cynthia! E-excuse me! Cynthia! Hi! Oh my gosh, I'm your biggest fan! I'll believe in you no matter what! I'm totally, absolutely, positively sure that you're stronger than Lance! |
Scientist | Lies! Utter nonsense! It is Lance who is the strongest, mightiest dragon master! I can prove it to you right now! I may look like just another scientist, but I have faced the great Lance in battle before! |
Cynthia | All right, then. Why don't you team up with your friends over there? <player>... you and Rosa can fight with me. Let's do our best to get in sync with one another. It's our first time teaming up like this, after all. |
Rosa | You got it! We'll give it our best shot! |
- Cynthia's Perspective
Name | Text |
---|---|
Scientist | H-how is it possible that you're this strong?! Champions must be on an entirely different level... |
Rising Star | See? I told you Cynthia is the greatest dragon master ever! |
Scientist | B-but I... No! Not enough evidence! Please stand by—I must research this matter further! |
Rosa | There they go... It seems like everyone on Pasio is laser focused on you and Lance right now, Cynthia. |
Cynthia | It certainly seems that way. As long as this whole debate leads to a fun battle between us, that's good enough for me. |
Rosa | Doesn't all of this make you curious, though? About who's really the greatest? |
Cynthia | Well...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious. I've just never placed much importance on earning titles like "the greatest." |
Rosa | Seriously?! But people call you the greatest all the time, Cynthia! |
Cynthia | I know. I do hear that a lot. But as far as I'm concerned, the goal in all this isn't to compare myself to others. Working hard with Garchomp to grow stronger each day, to excel beyond our limits... That personal growth is more important to me. And that's why, to be honest, I don't really care how the rest of the world perceives me. |
Rosa | Mhmm... Wow, it must be nice not to care what people think. I wish I could be that cool! |
Cynthia | *chuckle* Did that come off a bit too high and mighty? Let's just forget I said anything, all right? Well, I should get going. Places to go, people to see... |
Rosa | I love how cool and nonchalant Cynthia is about her fame and power. I wonder... Hey, <player>! Wanna go talk to Lance? I think I know where he's training right now! I wonder what Lance thinks about all of this... I'm so curious! |
Iris | The greatest dragon master, huh? Sounds like something right up my alley! Now I'm curious, too! |
Rosa | I've seen him training in this area before. He should be around here somewhere... |
??? | Dragonite, Hyper Beam! |
Rosa | Bingo! Sounds like he's just over there! |
Clair | Y-you just got to Pasio, and you're already able to give me a run for my money? I guess I shouldn't be surprised! You are my cousin, after all! |
Lance | I doubt it has anything to do with us being cousins, Clair. But thank you for helping me get accustomed to the battle style of this place. |
Rosa | Lance! |
Lance | Well, well, who do we have here? Training with <player> again today, Rosa? |
Rosa | Yep! Actually, we have something we want to ask you about— |
??? | Yes! We finally found you! Oh my gosh, can you believe THE Lance is standing right in front of us?! *squeal* |
Beauty | Lance! We're your biggest fans! |
Swimmer | Will you pleeease have a battle with us, Lance? I want to hold this memory in my heart forever! |
Lance | Sorry, Rosa. Can it wait until after this battle? I can't let my fans down. Come on, Clair. Let's do this. |
Clair | N-no way! Did you forget about that Hyper Beam you just pummeled Kingdra with? We're in no shape to fight right now. |
Lance | Ah, that's right. I guess that leaves you two. Rosa, <player>, let's team up. I suppose this is as good a chance as any to see exactly what you're capable of. Give these fans everything you've got! |
- Lance's Perspective
Name | Text |
---|---|
Beauty | Ahhh, I can die a happy woman! Never in a million years did I think I'd get the chance to face Lance in battle... |
Swimmer | Wow, I'll never forget the way I felt when I saw Dragonite's Hyper Beam in real life! |
Lance | I think I'm starting to like the battle style here on Pasio. It lends itself to different strategies than I'm used to elsewhere. Now then, you mentioned you had something you wanted to ask me before? |
Rosa | Oh, right. Well, we were wondering... |
Lance | I see... Who's the greatest dragon master, me or Cynthia? Interesting question. And you say the whole island's been talking about this? I had no idea. |
Clair | Hmph. Sounds like a pointless debate, if you ask me. The answer is obvious. |
Rosa | What?! How do you know?! |
Clair | It's simple. I know who the strongest dragon master is... because it's me—Clair! |
Lance | ... ... ... |
Rosa | Ohhh, of course! You're a dragon master, too! I hadn't even thought about that. |
Lance | It's true that you're strong, Clair. And it's good to have confidence in your own abilities... but there's a limit to what's good and what's not. Too much pride can make you overconfident, and overconfidence can make you vulnerable. |
Clair | ... |
Lance | To get back to your question, Rosa, I think I share Cynthia's feelings about the title of who's "the greatest." I know the vanity that title holds. |
Rosa | Vanity? What do you mean? |
Lance | A long time ago, when I was a member of the Elite Four but not Champion, I was defeated by a Trainer. He claimed to be the greatest of all, and he had the strength and skill to back it up. But eventually, a stronger Trainer came along, and even he was defeated... It was then that I realized something. That title—"the greatest"—can inflate your ego, but it doesn't really mean anything. It's an illusion, there one minute and gone the next... The way I see it, seeking to grow and improve yourself is far more worthwhile than chasing a fleeting illusion of greatness. |
Rosa | Mhmm... Wow, that's so deep. You Champions really are on a whole different level. I should be taking notes! |
Lance | *chuckle* Glad I could bring a bit of perspective. Well, if you'll excuse me, I've been meaning to take a stroll around the city sometime today. |
Rosa | Oh! If that's where you're headed, I can give you a tour! I know the city like the back of my hand! |
Lance | Thanks. I'd appreciate that. |
Clair | Hmph! Why is everyone so stuck on Cynthia and Lance, anyway? I don't get it! I'll show them... Get ready, Pasio, because I'm about to prove that I, Clair, and my Kingdra are the greatest of all! |
Rosa | This part of the city is where it gets the busiest! If you like shopping, like I do, you'll find plenty of spots to check out here! |
Lance | Interesting. I wonder if they have any good capes for sale around here... Hm? |
Rosa | What is it? Is something wrong? *gasp* |
Cynthia | We seem to keep running into each other today, Rosa, <player>. And...I see you've brought a new friend with you this time. Nice to see you, Lance. |
Lance | And you, Cynthia. You seem to be keeping yourself busy here on Pasio. |
Rosa | Whoa...it actually happened! The world's two greatest dragon masters—the hottest topic on Pasio—just bumped into each other right here! |
Lance | We seem to have become one of the island's biggest attractions. |
Cynthia | Receiving so much attention is certainly an honor and a privilege. However... ... ... ... |
Lance | ... ... ... |
Rosa | Hey, are you two OK? If this is some kind of staring contest, then— |
Cynthia | There's been so much gossip about us Champions and our dragon Pokémon... About who is really the greatest of all... I thought I could simply ignore it and move on... but now that you're right here in front of me, I can't help but feel that itch. |
Rosa | Wait! Do you mean— |
Lance | Heh, you took the words right out of my mouth. We may be Champions in title, but we're still Pokémon Trainers first and foremost, just like anyone else. When our eyes meet... |
Cynthia | Naturally, we have to— |
??? | I challenge you to a battle! |
Ace Trainer (1) | Who decided that Lance and Cynthia are the only ones in the running for greatest dragon master of all time, huh? Sure wasn't me! My team and I fight with dragon Pokémon, too! And we're seriously strong! |
Rosa | Uhh, this is not where I thought this was going! |
Lance | It's fine by me. I never refuse a challenge. No matter who the challenger may be. |
Cynthia | Thank you. My thoughts exactly. |
Ace Trainer (1) | Yoo-hoo, over here... Last I checked, we're the ones who challenged you to a battle, so... |
Lance | Well, <player>? Will you lend us your strength? Our challengers are a team of three, so it would only be fair. |
Cynthia | Shall we begin? |
- Surprise Entrance
Name | Text |
---|---|
Ace Trainer (2) | H-how...? We were no match for you at all! I thought I'd be crushed if you beat us... |
Ace Trainer (1) | but now that we've battled each other, I'm just curious! Who really IS the greatest dragon master?! I have to know! What about the stadium just up the road? Trainers are allowed to use it whenever we want! You two could battle it out there! |
Ace Trainer (2) | Yeah! You'd have way more space to unleash your attacks at the stadium. Come on! Please? I've gotta have front-row seats for this! |
Rosa | Umm, s-so I feel like this situation just keeps escalating, and I don't know what's going on... I mean, how'd we end up in a place like this, with an audience like this? |
Scientist | Yes! The time has come at last! Who is the greatest dragon master of all?! Is it Cynthia? Or is it Lance? |
Rising Star | It's Cynthia, duh! |
Scientist | No, it's not! It's most definitely Lance, I assure you! |
Rising Star | Nuh-uh! Cynthia's the best! |
Scientist | No, Lance is the best! |
Rosa | Sounds like the crowd's getting pretty antsy... In a few minutes, they'll finally get an answer to their big debate! So...who do you think it's gonna be, <player>? |
Cynthia | Cynthia!: Well, I can't let you down now, can I? I'll give this battle everything I've got, and I promise you, I will win! Well...shall we get started, Lance? I'd like to see with my own two eyes what you and Dragonite are truly capable of! |
Lance | Lance!: Thank you, <player>. I'm glad you have confidence in me. Watch—I will win this battle! I stake my title of Lance, master of dragons, on my victory! Well...shall we begin, Cynthia? Time for you and Garchomp to show me the full extent of your power! |
??? | Hold it right there! |
Iris | Yay! We made it just in time, Clair! |
Clair | E-exactly as I planned it! The star of the show must have a dramatic entrance! Lance! Cynthia! Iris and I have come to challenge you to a battle! If you want to claim the title of greatest dragon master as your own, you'll have to defeat us first! |
Lance | Clair... You never give up, do you? |
Cynthia | Quite the enthusiastic cousin you have there, Lance. No objection from me. I've actually been curious about them for a while now—both Clair and the young Champion from Unova. |
Iris | You mean me? Woo-hoo! I've been wanting to battle against you and your cute Garchomp for so long! |
Clair | If we're all in agreement here, can we hurry up and get this battle started already? |
Iris | Yeah! Let's do our best, Clair! |
Lance | Fine...but if this is going to be a team battle, let's play by the rules. <player>, will you lend me your strength one more time? |
Iris | If you get him/her, then we get Rosa! Come on over! We're gonna be the greatest dragon masters ever! |
Rosa | M-me? Are you serious?! If you're sure...I promise to do my best and help you two however I can! |
Cynthia | It sounds like everything is in order... Well? Are you ready to battle against Cynthia, Champion of the Sinnoh League... |
Lance | and Lance, Champion of the Indigo League? Here we come! |
- At Long Last...
Name | Text |
---|---|
Iris | Aww, they beat us! I thought we'd have a chance since I'm a Champion, too. Oh well! At least we had fun, right? I hope we can all battle again someday! |
Clair | I...I can't believe this... This shouldn't have happened... Kingdra...I-I'm sorry I let you down... I wanted to prove that I'm the greatest dragon master...that I'm worthy of being your Trainer. I guess, as it turns out, I'm nowhere near that level... I need to get stronger... You were brilliant, though, Kingdra. You fought hard, and your moves were all fantastic. |
Cynthia | You have a kind heart, Clair. |
Clair | What? |
Cynthia | You staked your pride on this battle to prove yourself to the Pokémon you love, and despite being defeated, you refuse to give up. You still strive to grow and improve yourself, and that is admirable. As a fellow Trainer, I really respect that! |
Clair | Cynthia... |
Lance | You can be a little impulsive sometimes, Clair... but that earnest, straightforward attitude of yours is one of your greatest strengths as well. If you can learn to hone that, the sky is the limit! Come and find me whenever you want to battle! I'll accept your challenge anytime, anywhere! |
Clair | Lance... Hmph! Of course I will! I'm not going to let one tiny loss stop me from becoming the greatest dragon master of all time! Come on, Iris! Let's let Kingdra and the others rest for a bit, but then it's right back to training! |
Iris | You got it! See you later, everyone! |
Clair | Lance, Cynthia... thank you. |
Rosa | Can you believe you just beat Clair and Iris? What an awesome battle! But now it's time for the grand finale! Which one of you is gonna come out of this battle as the greatest dragon master of all? |
Lance | About that... Sorry to disappoint you all, but I think I'm going to need a rain check. Cynthia and I will have to battle another time! |
Rosa | WHAT?! But why? |
Cynthia | We've faced some tough opponents today... Garchomp and Dragonite have really had to push themselves in these last few battles. Our Pokémon are our partners, and we care a lot about them, which means it's our duty to make sure their needs are taken care of. |
Lance | Right. That's just basic Pokémon training protocol. You have to make sure your Pokémon are all right before jumping into a battle situation with them... even if it means having others tease you or accuse you of running away from a challenge. |
Rosa | O-of course. You're right. I'm sorry... I guess I just got a little carried away. |
Lance | No, it's all right. I'm sorry to have to let you all down today. But as long as we're on Pasio, there will be endless opportunities for us to battle! Now you've got something to look forward to! Right, everyone? |
Cynthia | I'm glad all of our fans were so understanding. |
Lance | Everyone here loves Pokémon as much as we do. I knew they would understand. Besides... I can think of a much better place for our ultimate battle together. The PML finals seem like a perfectly appropriate platform to me... |
Cynthia | So in other words...we should save the fun for later? All right, then. I can't say I care much about the title of greatest dragon master, but if it means I get to battle against you, I'm definitely in! I look forward to the day we can finally unleash our full power on the battlefield. |
Lance | That sounds like a promise. I'll climb through the ranks and make sure it's me standing across from you on that battlefield at the finals! Someday soon, we will have our ultimate showdown! |
