This is the last episode of the anime to feature Ash and Pikachu as main protagonists.
Plot
As Ash, Misty, and Brock traveled down the winding roads, Misty said farewell to Ash and Brock because she had to visit Cerulean city. As Brock asked Misty for her sisters, he sent kind regards, possibly asking them out. They said their goodbyes, with Brock and Ash splitting up as well for Ash to go to Pewter gym. Ash and Pikachu arrived at Pallet town and were greeted by Mr. Mime. When they arrived, Delia welcomed Ash and Pikachu, and they realized they were dirty, so they took a bath, playing in the water with each other. After their bath, they were greeted with dinner made by Delia herself, where they talked about Misty and Brock returning with Ash and how much fun they had. Ash and Pikachu took a nap and were woken up by Dodrio the next morning. Delia reminded Ash that he was going to meet Professor Oak, and he changed into his clothes. His mom bought him new shoes, but he didn't wear them because he was in a hurry. While Ash was heading to Professor Oak's laboratory, he was greeted by Tracey, his old companion. Tracey asked Ash to be good at looking after the laboratory with Oak. When they arrived inside, they were greeted by Oak and a missing Charmander. Ash was now on a journey to look for it and found it in a hole. After finding it, he met Gary, his old rival. After bringing it back to Oak, they were given a checkup. After that, they left the laboratory, and Gary left, congratulating Ash on his progress towards becoming a Pokémon master. Ash then wandered around the forest, wondering how close he was to becoming a Pokémon master. He ate dinner, slept, and woke up to breakfast before helping out on a farm, skating, eating lunch and a snack. Tracey showed Ash his Pokémon, and they continued their journey. Meanwhile, at the Team Rocket headquarters, Jessie, James, and Meowth were still enemies, working as choir members. Wobbuffet was nervous about what was going to happen, but they gained some friendship while working together. Ash then ventured into the Viridian Forest, where he discovered many Pokémon. There he found Meowth, James, and Jessie hiding in the bush, hunting for Pikachu after their duty in the headquarters. They reunited and planned to steal Pikachu. They attacked Ash and Pikachu, stealing Pikachu from James' net. They battled Ash, even though he had no Pokémon, but then Ash's Pidgeotto returned, helping him fight Team Rocket, making Pikachu escape and using thunderbolt on Team Rocket, causing them to blast off again. After that, Ash got to see Pidgeotto's friends, and he regained Pidgeotto as a Pokémon. They explored the Viridian Forest, watching Poliwag swim on its back. While watching, they sunbathed, and Ash kept thinking about how close he was to becoming a Pokémon master, even with the rain pouring. He realized that being a Pokémon master is about having a healthy relationship with all Pokémon, and they went back on a new journey with James and Jessie and Meowth following him to achieve his dream. In conclusion, Ash and his Pikachu started their journey towards becoming Pokémon master, with Ash facing challenges along the way. He learned that becoming a Pokémon master is not just about winning battles, but also about fostering a healthy relationship with all Pokémon. As he continues his journey with his friends, he is determined to become the best Pokémon master he can be, like no one ever was.
