Rank
Ranking is a system used in some of the Pokémon games to create a hierarchy of achievement.
Main series
Pokémon Contests use a ranking system. A Pokémon must win a contest in each rank to progress in their category. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, contests of each rank were spread around Hoenn. However, in Pokémon Emerald, they all take place in Lilycove City and in Sinnoh they all take place in Hearthome City.

Sinnoh Super Contests

Mystery Dungeon
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, rescue points are earned for each successfully completed mission. Culmulating enough of them raises the team through the ranks. Reaching the top rank earns the player the Lucario statue.
These are the ranks in the game:
Rank | Normal | Bronze | Silver | Gold | Platinum | Diamond | Lucario |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Points required | (Start) | 50 | 500 | 1500 | 3000 | 7500 | 15000 |
The amount of rescue points gained from completing a mission are dependent on the difficulty rating:
Difficulty | E | D | C | B | A | S | ☆ |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Points gained | 5 | 10-20 | 40-60 | 80-100 | 150-200 | 300-400 | 700-1500 |
In the game, Team A.C.T. have gained a strong reputation as a Gold Rank team. Team Hydro is Bronze Rank and Team Constrictor is Silver Rank. Team Rumblerock and Team Shiftry are only Normal Rank.
Ranger
In Pokémon Ranger, all Rangers have a rank that shows their progression in their career. They begin at Rank 1 and are promoted through good work. In practice, this is awarded after completing each numbered mission. By gaining higher ranks, features of the Capture Styler are unlocked. At the start, only Grass, Fire, Water and Electric Poké Assists can be used, only four friend Pokémon can be obtained at a time and the Partner Gauge for Plusle and Minun's Discharge is at 1. Increasing rank allows for different Poké Assists, more friend Pokémon to be on standby at a time and the Partner Gauge to be extended.
Rank | New abilities |
---|---|
1 | (Start) |
2 | Fighting Poké Assist |
3 | Poison/Psychic Poké Assists, Partner Gauge 2 |
4 | Bug/Ground Poké Assists, max 5 friend Pokémon |
5 | Rock Poké Assist, Partner Gauge 3 |
6 | Flying Poké Assist |
7 | Dark/Ghost Poké Assists, Partner Gauge 4, max 6 friend Pokémon |
8 | Ice Poké Assist |
9 | Partner Gauge 5 |
10 | max 7 friend Pokémon |
The ability to use the Dragonite Bus is awarded separate of rank but occurs after reaching rank 7 in the game sequence. After gaining much experience, Rangers that show particularly strong abilities can earn the right to take friend Pokémon away from their natural habitats, which happens after the credits in the game.
