Beedrill (Japanese: スピアー Spear) is a Bug/Poison-type Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Beedrill resembles an wasp, but only has four legs. The first two are tipped with long stingers. It has veined wings, and another stinger on its abdomen.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
They have incredibly painful stings, and fly extremely fast. They chase after intruders relentlessly in a swarm.
Beedrill is the only known Pokémon that learns Twineedle.
Behavior
It is highly territorial. The way it behaves makes it often appear in the anime and quite a few fanfictions, making for tense runaway scenes: Beedrill is quick, so it's extremely hard to avoid its beatings after approaching its nest.
Habitat
Most Beedrill nest in forests and misty wooded areas.
Diet

In the anime
Beedrill's first non-cameo appearance was in Challenge of the Samurai, where a swarm of them stole Ash's Metapod.
In The Fourth Round Rumble a trainer named Jeanette Fisher used a Beedrill against Ash's Bulbasaur.
In The Lost Lapras, an obnoxious trainer who was attacking a Lapras had a Beedrill.
Ash captured a Beedrill in the Bug-Catching Contest, but he gave it to Casey.
Jimmy of New Bark Town owns a Beedrill.
During Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, The Phantom used two of these Poison Bee Pokémon to chase our heroes.
A Beedrill is used in the PokéRinger Contest in That's Just Swellow.
Beedrill also has many other roles in the anime and has appeared in a lot of episodes, mostly portraying an antagonist to Ash and crew. They are usually attacked by a swarm and end up running for their lives.
In the manga
In Pokémon Special one of Giovanni's most treasured and strongest team members is a Beedrill he caught in his childhood from Viridian Forest. It is also one of the few members of his team that isn't a Template:Type2.

In the TFG
One Beedrill figure has been released.
Other appearances
Super Smash Bros.
Beedrill was in the first Super Smash Bros. game. When a Poké Ball was opened, one would come out and fly away. A few seconds later a whole swarm would fly by and attack everyone on the field except the user. It did not appear again in Super Smash Bros. Melee and its role was taken over by Unown.

Trivia
- Beedrill's English name was originally going to be spelled with only one "l" instead of two.
- Beedrill shares the same Pokédex number and types as the glitch Z4.
- Although Beedrill clearly flies, it is not part Template:Type2 nor does it have the ability Levitate. It shares this trait with Venomoth and Dustox.
- Beedrill's Red and Blue sprite shows its body all being yellow, with no stripes.
- Beedrill, in the anime, is show as wild in every region; in the games it can only be caught as a bedrill in generation 2
Origin
Its design appears to simply be a stylized bee or wasp. However, it has a much closer resemblance to an Asian giant hornet. Its shiny variation is similar to blue hornets.
Name origin
Beedrill's name is a combination of bee and drill, indicating the needle-like arms it wields. Spear also refers to its stingers. In addition, its Japanese name could contain a reversal of Apis, the name for the honey bee genus.
In other languages
- German: Bibor - "Biene" means bee, "Bohrer" means drill.
- French: Dardargnan - From D'Artagnan and dard, french for sting.
- Korean: 독침붕 Dokchimbung
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 大針蜂 Dá Zhen Feng ("giant stinger hornet")
