Doduo (Japanese: ドードー Dodo) is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

This avian has tiny wings and two heads. It cannot fly well, but it's Template:A2.

Gender differences

A female has brown necks instead of black ones.

Special abilities

It can run at sixty miles per hour, and one head is always Template:A2.

Behavior

The heads of a Doduo appear to be quite keen with each other, they use a type of 'teamwork' to get things done and to survive. For example, while running, Doduo can be seen alternately rising and lowering their heads. They do this to balance themselves while running at extreme speeds. This Pokémon also appears to be quite cautious, the heads take turns sleeping while the other one watches for enemies.

Habitat

Doduo live in wide open plains, grasslands, and savannahs. They rarely live in forests but are sometimes found in scrublands and deserts.

Diet

In the anime

Doduo's first appearance was a cameo at Prof. Oak's labratory in Showdown at the Poké Corral. This Doduo belonged to Gary Oak. Gary's Doduo eventually evolved into a Dodrio.

A knocked-out Doduo

In Bad to the Bone, Otoshi tried to fight off Team Rocket with a Doduo, but he was failing miserably until his Marowak decided to return.

In the manga

Prior to her appearance in Pokémon Special, Yellow is given a Doduo that eventually evolves in Template:PSV. The person who gave her Doduo is revealed in Template:PSV to be her uncle, Fisherman Wilton.

In the TFG

Trivia

  • Doduo's English name was originally going to be the same as the Japanese one, "Dodo".
  • Strangely, Doduo can learn Fly and Steel Wing despite it having no wings that can be seen.
  • In Pokémon Colosseum, when Doduo uses Fly, it runs in place while in midair, which seems to suggest that it hovers in midair using the momentum of running as opposed to acheiving flight in the traditional sense.
  • Strangely, while one of its Template:P2 heads is saying something in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, the others say 'me too' or 'mine too' but its won't.

Origin

Despite its name, it seems like it has more in common with ostriches than dodos. It also seems to show some similarity to the extinct flightless bird, the Moa and the flightless bird, the Emu.

Name origin

Doduo's name seems to be a combination of dodo, an extinct, flightless bird, and duo, meaning a pair. Its Japanese name is simply Dodo.
