Infernape (Japanese: ゴウカザル Goukazaru) is a dual-typed Fire/Fighting Pokémon.

Infernape evolves from Monferno at level 36. It is the final form of Chimchar.

Biology

Physiology

Its body is a brownish-red color and it has a large flame on its head. The tail flame it had as a Monferno has disappeared. Infernape wears a gold chest ring in place of a chest plate. It also has gold shoulder pads, knee pads and wrist bands. The blue and red markings it had on its forehead as a Monferno have now changed to a deep blood-red color. Its hands, feet, and inner ears are blue. It uses its hands and feet to pull off special fighting attacks. It is most competitive when it comes to speed. It is the shortest fully-evolved main series starter Pokémon to date, being only three feet and eleven inches tall.

Gender differences

None.

Trivia

Origin

Infernape is based on a monkey. It is also possible that he is based on Sun Wukong, the Chinese mythical "Monkey King". The gold elements in his design seem to indicate this, and his name can also be linked to Japanese interpretations of the character (e.g. Son Goku). Its appearance is similar to the Colobus Monkeys of Africa.

Name origin

Goukazaru is a combination of 業火 gōka, hellfire or inferno, and 猿 saru, ape. Infernape is a combination of "inferno" and "ape". Its German name, Panferno, comes from Schimpanse and inferno. Its French name, Simiabraz, comes from simia, latin for monkey, and braise, ember.
