Chatter is a Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation IV that deals an average amount of damage and may confuse the opponent. This move allows the player to record his or her voice using the Nintendo DS's microphone to play back during the attack. The chance of confusing the foe is determined by the volume of this recording.

Trivia

  • Chatter is the only move that cannot be Sketched, presumably due to audio limitations.
  • When a person's voice is recorded for the attack, the noise will always be distorted, possibly a failsafe to prevent foul words from being emitted by the game.
  • What Bird Keeper Alexandra, a trainer on route 211 says after you defeat her and talk to her outside of battle makes a reference to Chatot. "People say there's a bird Pokémon that can learn human speech. Do you know anything about it?" However, even if you have Chatot in your party, record your voice using chatter, and use the move in battle, nothing happens.
