Cresselia (Japanese: クレセリア Crecelia) is the crescent moon-based legendary Pokémon of Generation IV. Like many other legendary Pokémon, it is a Template:Type2.
Biology
Physiology
Cresselia has a blue, swan-like body with a yellow underside. She has a pair of purple rudimentary paws and a yellow head ornament that resembles a crescent moon. Cresselia has glowing, purple rings on her sides and back.
Gender differences
Cresselia is a female-only species.
Special abilities
Cresselia has the power to dispel the nightmares induced by Darkrai, and in return induce pleasant dreams. Some fans say Cresselia is the "Sandman" of the Pokémon world.
Cresselia is the only known Pokémon that learns Lunar Dance.
Behavior
It appears to be gentle, worrying for the ill and giving peace to those tormented by Darkrai.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2, her opposition to Darkrai becomes clearly evident, with the story showing scenes of Cresselia chasing it.
Habitat
Cresselia lives at Fullmoon Island.

Game data
NPC appearances
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Cresselia has made it her mission to foil Darkrai's plot of plunging everyone in the world into an endless nightmare. After healing Azurill of its nightmare, she joins the player's team as a guest in Dark Crater. After defeating Darkrai, Cresselia will offer to officially join the team.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Cresselia appears on the Spear Pillar stage as one of three Pokémon who appear in the center (The others being Dialga and Palkia). Cresselia acts completely different than the other two in terms of attacks it uses. It'll often shoot Psycho Cuts around the field, and sometimes shoot one large Psycho Cut as if it were a boomerang, hitting anyone that touches it.

Trivia
- When Cresselia is encountered, the music is the same as an ordinary wild Pokémon. It shares this trait with Shaymin. However, in Cresselia's case, this may be intended to catch the player off-guard.
- Cresselia can be seen as an opposite of Darkrai, as Darkrai causes nightmares, where Cresselia prevents them. Also, their islands are shaped and named opposite of each other.
- Cresselia is one of three legendary Pokémon that has a definite gender (Heatran also has a gender but can be male or female).
- Infi's hair color may be based off Cresselia, though this may be merely a coincidence.
- Cresselia's base Defense and HP stats equal those of Arceus.
Origin
Cresselia is based after a swan with features of heavenly bodies such as a crescent moon-shaped head and rings like Saturn's around its body.
It is also the same as the Sarimanok, a colorful Filipino being with the same trait as Cresselia.
Name origin
Its name is derived from crescent, referring to a phase of the moon.
