Sprites
Trivia
- While most of Honchkrow's stats are greatly improved from it's pre-evolution Murkrow, its Speed has fallen by 20 base points. This is one of the rare cases of a stat dropping by evolution. Other notable cases include Steelix, which loses 40 base points in Speed when it evolves from Onix, as well as Scizor, which loses the same amount as Steelix in base speed points when evolving from Scyther.
- Honchkrow's Platinum sprite is exactly like Sugimori's artwork.
Origin
Honchkrow is based off of a crow with aspects of a Mafia boss. The white beard and wide-brimmed hat may also be in reference to old folk tales of women being accused of witchcraft from having facial hair, and stereotypes of witches' clothing. It may also be based upon the beaked plague doctors of the mid 14th century.
Name origin
Its name is a combination of "honcho", a leader or boss, and "crow".
Don is Spanish for lord and is a title for Mafia leaders, while 烏 karasu is Japanese for crow. Donkarasu literally means "Lord of crows".
Its German name, Kramshef, comes from Krähe and Chef. Its French name, Corboss, comes from corbeau and boss.
