Porygon-Z (Japanese: ポリゴンZ PorygonZ) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Porygon2 by trade with Dubious Disc. It is the final form of Porygon.

Biology

Physiology

Porygon-Z appears similar to Porygon2, albeit darker in color. Most notably, its head is detached from the body, much like Porygon's legs, with no visible neck and yellow eyes with a bull's-eye shaped pattern. Its bill is more round, and doesn't curve down as it did in its Porygon2 stage. On its head is a small, horn-like structure, which is the least-rounded appendage on its body. Its legs are now wing-like, and its posture resembles that of a hummingbird. The tail is a little plumper, with the blue pattern on it's chest no longer being isolated and now connecting to its legs/wings.

Gender differences

Porygon-Z is genderless.

Special abilities

Porygon-Z, and its pre-evolved forms, Porygon, and Porygon2, are the only known Pokémon that learn Conversion, Conversion 2, and Sharpen.

Porygon-Z has significantly higher Special Attack power than Porygon2 and is slightly faster. However, Porygon-Z also has weaker defenses.

It can use Hyper Beam and/or Giga Impact, Like both of its Pre-Evolutions.

Behavior

Being a cybernetic Pokémon, it exhibits the behavior that was programmed into it as a Porygon. However, it may also display emotions and some erratic behavior that was not a part of its programming. Porygon-Z can sometimes be seen shaking rapidly for a short time. Whether this is intentional or a glitch is unknown.

Habitat

Porygon-Z normally live in cyberspace, but they can live practically anywhere due to the lack of the need to breathe.

In the anime

As with Porygon2, it is currently believed that Porygon-Z will not appear in the anime as a result of the Electric Soldier Porygon incident, except possibly as a brief cameo.

Trivia

  • Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon whose Japanese name is spelled with a character from a foreign alphabet.
  • Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon to learn Trick Room by leveling up so far.
  • Porygon-Z shares the highest Special Attack stat in the game (excluding legendaries) with Alakazam.
    • On that note, Porygon-Z has the highest Special Attack stat of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • Porygon-Z weighs as much as Dawn.
  • The Dubious Disc's name implies that Porygon-Z, unlike its pre-evolution, was not authorized by Silph Co. Its appearance as a glitched version of Porygon2 also seems to reinforce this. There is a fan theory that speculates that Team Rocket created Porygon as well as the Dubious Disc.
  • Despite Porygon-Z's pre-evolutions both having their signature Conversion moves, no new Conversion move was made for Porygon-Z.
  • Since no leveling up is required to evolve at all, just trading with held items, Porygon-Z is one of the two fully evolved three-stage Pokémon capable of legitimately being level 1 (Roserade being the other), and the only one that can't skip its fully unevolved form.
  • Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon that evolves from a Pokémon that evolves via trading while holding an item. It is also the only Pokémon who evolves from a Pokémon who already evolved from methods other than leveling up (not including evolutionary lines where baby Pokémon are the first stage).

Origin

Like Porygon and Porygon2, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. It is essentially a glitched Porygon2 with some differences.

Name origin

Porygon-Z's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the stereotype that Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The "Z" could either refer to the Z axis in 3D coordination systems or that Porygon-Z is the last of its evolutionary line (since the letter Z is the last letter of the Latin alphabet). It is also possible that the "Z" was used as a corruption of "2", due to the fact that Porygon-Z is a glitched version of Porygon2.
