Exeggcute (Japanese: タマタマ Tamatama) is a dual-type Grass/Psychic Pokémon.

It evolves into Exeggutor by Leaf Stone.

Biology

Physiology

Exeggcute resemble light pink eggs. The shells have some cracks on them (and may even have their yolk/brain exposed). Despite obviously looking like eggs, Exeggcute are actually similar to plant seeds.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Exeggcute are capable of several Grass- and Template:Type2 moves, like Dream Eater, which combines well with its two sleep moves, Sleep Powder and Hypnosis. Exeggcute use a special kind of telepathy that always makes them form groups of six.

Exeggcute, and its evolved form, Exeggutor, are the only known Pokémon that learn Barrage.

Unusually for Template:Type2 Pokémon, Exeggcute and Exeggutor are unable to learn Calm Mind without a cheating device.

Behavior

These Pokémon gather together in swarms of six. They communicate with each other by using a form of telepathy that only they can understand.

Exeggcute in the anime

Exeggcute first appeared in The March of the Exeggutor Squad. The Egg Pokémon was owned by an incompetent magician named Melvin. Exeggcute managed to hypnotize Ash and Melvin forced Ash to capture a bunch of Exeggutor. Melvin's Exeggcute managed to evolve, but without using a Leaf Stone.

Exeggcute also appeared in Pikachu's Rescue Adventure. Pikachu and company, plus an Elekid, found Misty's Togepi hanging around an Exeggcute that was missing a member of its batch. It evolved when all the eggs were back together, standing on a Leaf Stone.

In the manga

Bill is seen with an Exeggcute in Pokémon Special. Prior to the events of Template:PSV, it has since evolved into Exeggutor.

Trivia

• Exeggcute is one of five Pokémon with seven weaknesses, the others being its evolution Exeggutor, Snover and Abomasnow, and the legendary Celebi.
• Most of Exeggcute's sprites show the middle "egg" being larger than the rest, particularly in the Red and Blue sprite.
• Exeggcute shares the same species name with Chansey. They are both known as Egg Pokémon.
• Every sprite to this very date (excluding back sprites) has shown at least one broken egg, which is shown most prominently in the Diamond and Pearl backsprites. The other eggs are 'cracked'.
• Its sprite for Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is nearly the reverse of its Silver sprite.
• Exeggcute's broken egg has a face on the back of its head, as shown in Pokémon Ranch.
• In Pikachu's Rescue Adventure, it's hinted that each of Exeggcute's members may have an individual sense of identity, even though they are all considered to be just one Pokémon.
• The only backsprites featuring all six of Exeggcute's eggs were generations I and IV. The others only feature four eggs.

Origin

It appears to be a mixture of a batch of eggs as well as a set of coconuts.

Name origin

Exeggcute's name is a play on the phrase "eggs are cute." It is also a play on the word execute. Tamatama could be taken to mean 偶々, unexpectedly, although it is more likely to be derived from 玉 tama, sphere, doubled. It is worth noting that the Japanese word for egg is 卵 tamago.

• German: Owei - from Ei (egg). "O wei" is also an old term for "good grief" and fits to the name of it's evolution, "Kokowei".
• French: Noeunoeuf - Comes from the word oeuf pronounced twice. Oeuf means egg.
• Korean: 아라리 Arari
