Like its pre-evolution, its top half of the body is blue; however, its entire body is slimmer. It also seems to have ears and to have lost its snout that it had as a Cyndaquil. It has flames on its head and tail.

Quilava is the evolution of Cyndaquil. Its fur is non-flammable, so it can withstand flame attacks. The fire coming from its head and rear, which are stronger than Cyndaquil's, can be launched as a flame attack.
Behavior
They're known to be less timid than Cyndaquil, though their behavior appears to be affected by their surroundings. A very common thing they under go during evolution is they race off in search of powerful opponents.
Quilava first appeared as a cameo in the episode You're A Star, Larvitar where Ash witnessed a trainer training with his Quilava for the Silver Conference and also considered for a short time of getting his Cyndaquil to evolve as a way of training it for the Silver Conference following Cyndaquil's defeat against Satchel's Magby.
Quilava first played a major role in Love, Pokémon Style! as Macey's Pokémon. She used it against Ash during the Silver Conference but was defeated by his Squirtle.
In Shocks and Bonds, Clark, a trainer that likes to conduct battles like a symphony, used a Quilava and Charizard against Ash's Grovyle and Glalie. Despite the type disadvantage, Ash's Grovyle defeated Clark's Quilava.
Quilava keeps its foes at bay with the intensity of its flames and gusts of superheated air. This Pokémon applies its outstanding nimbleness to dodge attacks even while scorching the foes with flames.

Just like Cyndaquil and Typhlosion, Quilava's Template:Shiny2 sprite (in Gold, Silver and Crystal) had a purple flame, this was changed to orange during Generation III.
Quilava and Typhlosion share the same species name with Entei. They are all known as Volcano Pokémon.
Quilava's sprite in Pokémon Crystal shows it standing on its hind legs. All of its other sprites do not.
Origin
Its appearance is similar to most animals in the Mustela genus, although it is most likely a stoat based on its lack of a tail and the fur on its upper body being significantly darker than that on its underbelly.
Name origin
Quilava's name is a combination of quill, a needlelike hair, and lava, extrusive molten rock. Its Japanese name is a combination of magma and 山荒 yama-arashi, porcupine. Its German name, Igelavar, comes from Igel and Lava. Its French name, Feurisson, comes from feu and hérisson.
