Trivia
- Although its appearance suggests that it is sluggish, its highest stat is actually its speed.
- Also, it's Pokémon Pearl PokéDex entry mentions it wrapping it's tail around it's waist to make it look more intimidating. Despite that, it doesn't have Intimidate.
Origin
Purugly is based on a wild tiger cat, though its appearance is closer to an overweight tabby cat.
Name origin
Its English name comes from the words "purr" and "ugly". Its Japanese name may be derived from a combination of デブ debu, fat, にゃ nya, meow, and the English word "cat". Although considering the English name is Purugly, it is also likely the "bu" in Bunyatto comes from the word busaiku (不細工), which means "ugly".
In other languages
- German: Shnurgarst - From schnurren (to purr) and garstig (rough).
- French: Chaffreux - From chat (cat) and affreux (horrid).
- Korean: 몬냥이 Monnyang-i
