Swablu (Japanese: チルット Tyltto) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves into Altaria starting at level 35.

Biology

Physiology

Swablu is a blue parrot-like creature with two long feathers on top of its head, similar to the hairs on Aipom and Ambipom heads, and white cotton-like wings. It has a short, rounded white beak.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Swablu can sing Pokémon and people to sleep, and cleans things with its cottony wings.

Behavior

Swablu have a low tolerance to dirty things; they love to rub their cottony wings onto dirty, dusty objects. They usually are not afraid of people, and tend to lay on their heads. Once their cleanup is made, they fly to a nearby river and wash their wings, removing all dirt and dust.

Habitat

During spring, Swablu flocks move closer to human populated towns.

Swablu in the anime

Swablu's first major role was in True Blue Swablu. A Swablu got lost from its flock and got its wing injured. After the wing was healed, it took Ash and company some time to get the Swablu the courage to fly again. At the end of the episode, Swablu was going to come with May until it was re-united with its flock.

A Swablu has also appeared in That's Just Swellow under the ownership of Shane.

A Swablu appeared in DP118 as one of the participants of PokéRinger competition.

Several Swablu appeared in DP121.

In the manga

Brigette and Lanette both own a Swablu.

Trivia

  • Swablu and Onix are the only dual-typed Pokémon that have their primary type change during evolution.

Origin

Swablu is based on a lorikeet with some cotton or cloud. It shares traits more specifically with the ultramarine lorikeet. Despite that it is named after a swallow.

Name origin

Swablu's name is a combination of the words swallow, a kind of bird, and blu, a misspelling of blue, referring to the color of this Pokémon. Swab may also refer its cotton swab-like wings. Its Japanese name may refer to Tyl, also known as Epsilon Draconis, a star in the Draco constellation.
