I came across a clearer photo that shows this Pokémon's English name is actually Shellos http://photos.actionfigs.com/showphoto.php?photo=9159

Hatching Shellos?

How is the color of a hatched Shellos determined? Does it take its mother's coloring, or does the location hatched have something to do with it? Is it random? I think such information should be included in the article, but I don't know the answer.

I've wondered this as well. English DP is a week away, though, so I don't think we'll wait too much longer for the answer... --TTEchidna 02:56, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I want to know too...maybe it's the location of hatching? ht14 02:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
According to forms (redirect, I know but I'm lazy), It's the mother.--MisterE13 01:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
I tried it, it is the mother. --Wynaut? 21:31, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Third Shellos?

What's the deal with this? The trivia section doesn't cite a source, and there's no talk about it here on the talk page at all. Can we get just a little more info? Maybe even a screen-cap or something?

In the data, it looks kinda like... I dunno, here. I found some sprites over at Veekun. Look at the back sprite. Kinda creepy looking, eh? [1] Tina δ 02:50, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
It's a hybrid of the two forms which was abandoned during development, likely. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 06:46, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Since they don't have front sprites I made one for shellos, but not for gastrodon... Should the images be uploaded? at least their back sprites? Hfc2x 05:40, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
The third forms? A good question. Honestly we haven't figured what to do with multiform Pokémon's sprites... TTEchidnaFire echy 05:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
well, I have them already... I got the back sprites and I made the front sprites to match them... but, I can't upload anything =( hfc2X 15:53, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay, why is Eastie unused in battle?

Is it because it's the same index number and there was no way to change the data, or is it possible to alter it to make it so the trainers with a West Sea Shellos have an East Sea one? How is the form determined, anyway? It can't be by index number, unlike Wormadam and Deoxys... can it be? I mean, East Sea mothers will make East Sea children, West Sea mothers make West Sea children. But how? What's the flag? What MAKES it a West/East Sea Shellos/Gastrodon? TTEchidna 08:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I've been using Pokésav, which has support for Shellos forms..
My find with calculated personality values: 00000000 00000000 01000000 00000000
That bit was always a 1 for every west sea form, but when it was easy sea, it was always a 0.
This was only creating Pokémon, I dunno if it is that bit or not. Gywall(Talk) 09:58, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
To make it easier to understand. The 0 bits varied between recalculated personality values. The 1 bit stayed constant. Gywall(Talk) 09:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, this was a quick play around while my DS was on charge, and I don't feel like catching a million Shellos to test this. Gywall(Talk) 14:25, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah. So the personality values for Trainers' Pokémon must be at default 0. TTEchidna 04:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
This has changed in Platinum. I fought a trainer nearly the Valor Lakefront and he had an east Shellos. --ケンジガール 05:36, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh yeah, he had one west Shellos, but two east Shellos. --ケンジガール 05:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Problem?

In articles of moves that Shellos can learn, it says West Sea under it, meaning that only the West Sea form can learn it. But both forms of Shellos can learn the same moves.

Easily fixed. TTEchidna 02:53, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Same thing with East Sea

Now it shows them in seperate boxes as if they both learned it different ways.--MisterE13 03:25, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Numbering Problem

Something has struck me as strange.

Shellos has two formes West Sea and East Sea (hereafter WS and ES respectively). I would like to compare this to the case of Nidoran ♂ and Nidoran ♀. Nidoran ♂ and Nidoran ♀ look different and they have the same name. Nidoran Female and Nidoran Male have different Dex numbers, #29 and #32. Why doesn't Shellos WS and Shellos ES have different Dex numbers? They are basically identical so they would constitute seperate numbering in the same way.

Other Pokemon with different Formes (such as Castform and Deoxys) don't have differen numbers for their different Formes which I uderstand because they can change between them. However, the same goes for Wormadam (evolved Burmy). It cannot change forme and looks different to other Pokemon with its name but it is considered the same Dex number no matter the Cloak.

Why no seperate numbering? Does something I've missed not constitute a seperate Dex number?

Bttsstewart 14:25, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

The Nidorans are different Pokémon entirely, different moveset, different evolutions, etc. The Shellos are only different in coloring. As to Wordmadon, I don't know that one. The Dark Fiddler - Nos hablamos? 14:32, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Gen I vs Gen IV. In Gen I they didn't have the ability to program them as one Pokémon to evolve based on gender. Now they do. TTEchidna 09:50, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't they have kept the numbering "laws" the same, for continuity's sake? Bttsstewart 17:52, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Sprites

Should the sprites be in a different position? 'ŚĥîΠŶPî₭₳ĉĥŭ' 02:06, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Not that i can see. They're just the same as other articles. What do you mean exactly? — THE TROM — 04:29, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
He means that the sprites differ in poses between East Sea and West Sea. East leans forward and West leans back. However, I will point out, ShinyPikachu, that the D/P sprites actually are very, very slightly different in their poses.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 07:47, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks 'ŚĥîΠŶPî₭₳ĉĥŭ' 19:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

The image quality

Looks terrible. Someone clean up a rip from the official art of both together? TTEchidna 02:32, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Heh, heh... that would be me. If someone can do it better (or find another picture) that would actually great. I did the same for Gastrodon, Burmy and Wormadam. I don't know if you think those are acceptable.--MisterE13 01:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Those three are fine. It's this one which is horrible. There are STRAY PIXELS. TTEchidna 01:32, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Probably because the original image was transparent =/= in Paint can someone else do it better?--MisterE13 01:36, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Ask and ye shall receive. Trainer-c 02:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

One Shellos?

So why is only the west form of Shellos shown in the usual artwork frame? This just seems wrong, it's not like the other form is a rare anomaly or something. Justice for east Shellos! D558 11:05, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

About Me

20081119-kanto1.gif I have legitimately caught all 150 Pokemon in the original Pokemon Red and Yellow games as well as receiving a Mew that may be (and probably was...) a non-legit capture but I myself received it fairly in a trade long before I even had the internet to know any Mew glitches (like pre-Year 2000)
