Glare (Japanese: へびにらみ Snake Glare) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Glare paralyzes the target. Glare cannot paralyze the target if it already has a major status ailment.

In Stadium, Glare cannot affect a target that has a Substitute.

In the anime

Pokémon

Arbok. Arbok glares at the opponent and they flash different colors. The opponent is then paralyzed, or Arbok's eyes glow blue, and the opponent becomes paralyzed.

Dunsparce. Dunsparce's eyes glow red and the opponent becomes paralyzed.

Trivia

  • Dunsparce is the only non-Template:Type2 to learn Glare.
  • Generation IV is the only generation to not introduce a new Pokémon that can learn Glare. Ekans and Arbok were introduced in Generation I, Dunsparce was introduced in Generation II, and Seviper was introduced in Generation III.
  • All the Pokémon that know Glare are snake-based.
  • Glare's English name is the same as the Japanese name of the move Leer.
