Tohjo Falls in Generation II

Tohjo Falls (Japanese: トージョウのたき Tojoh Waterfall) is the waterfall separating the Johto region from the Kanto region. It is known as The Link Between Kanto and Johto. Located in southwest Kanto, it is the final test of Trainers who have acquired all eight Johto badges and wish to put their skills to the test against the Elite Four, on Indigo Plateau to the north. The player will need the moves Surf and Waterfall to get through it. Though Trainers must get all eight badges to be granted access to the Pokémon League, the falls effectively hinder any progress on Route 27 until after a trainer has HM07 and has obtained the Rising Badge from Clair at Blackthorn Gym.

Giovanni

Giovanni hides out in Tohjo Falls, at least part of the time, during the three-year interim between Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, and hears Team Rocket's cries to him from the Radio Tower when they take over. It is up to the player to defeat him and prevent him from returning to them on a trip back in time courtesy of Celebi.

Eyecatch

In the anime

Although it is never visited directly, the Battle Tower is referred to as being close to Tohjo Falls.

Trivia

  • Although the eyecatches used in HeartGold and SoulSilver show the falls to be roughly 10-12 feet tall, the actual falls in the games are noticeably at least twice the size being closer to 20-25 feet tall. Also, the eyecatches do not show the walkway that was added underneath the falls.

Name origin

The name is an anagram of Johto or the two syllables of Johto reversed.
