Area Zero journals

The Area Zero journals are a series of diary entries in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet written by Professor SadaS/Professor TuroV. They record the professor's experiences regarding the Terastal phenomenon and a mysterious crystallized Pokémon. They are spread out between Area Zero's four research stations, the Zero Lab, and the Underdepths.

In the games

There are two Area Zero journals available to read in each of the four research stations, but there is only one note available in the Zero Lab. Three more journals were added in The Indigo Disk DLC in the Underdepths of Area Zero.

In Pokémon Scarlet, the texts refer to the ancient past and Koraidon. In Pokémon Violet, the texts refer to the distant future and Miraidon.

We've determined that this energy crystallization is linked to the being we call ▊▊▊▊▊▊.
The interlocking hexagonal plates that comprise ▊▊▊▊▊▊'s shell must somehow cause this phenomenon—which I've dubbed "Terastallizing."

Thanks to my prototype Tera Orb, I secured corporate funding for my research and made a laboratory in the lighthouse near Cabo Poco.
Someday, though, I'll return to the crater and resume my study of these crystals.

At last I can resume work on the Tera Project!
I'll move my research to the Zero Lab this month.
My team will be smaller, but no matter.
The strong influence of the crystals makes our experiments much more unstable.

SV
The crystals' power is tremendous! Their unstable output made our corporate backers fret, but...
If we can harness this energy, it will open up research possibilities we'd only dreamed of.
At last, paradise will be ours to create.

Our time machine research has yielded a triumph—a Pokémon from the ancient past!
I've named it Koraidon.
I was expecting one new life to treasure, but what fortune to be blessed with this gift as well!

I've successfully brought more and more ancient Pokémon to our time since the first one.
I'm so close to creating a world like the one in the book—a paradise where we three can live happily together forever. I must make it real.

I need more people. More time. That man walked out not long after the boy was born.
I need another set of hands, but could they be trusted? And how long would it take them to even understand? If only there were two of me.

My new assistant has intellect and technical skills to rival my own.
A bit rigid at times, but I've got no serious complaints. Productivity has doubled.
We even brought in a second Koraidon via the machine—though this one has proved aggressive.

The end of the text is too faded to make out.

The Treasure and the Stellar Tera Type

A massive cavern exists beneath Area Zero, and there slumbers Terapagos, the hidden treasure of Area Zero. Its body has become crystal, protecting it from hostile outsiders. It appears that rousing it will take some time.

In this cavern, I have witnessed the Terastal phenomenon occurring in a way I've never seen aboveground—Terastallization that appears to hold the power of every known type. I have dubbed this Tera Type the Stellar type for now. Could Terapagos's influence be at play?

The Area Zero Underdepths

I am calling the area found below Area Zero the Area Zero Underdepths. From the composition of the rock, I would date the cavern's formation to two million years ago. There are indications that many objects—or creatures perhaps—filled the space prior to the current cavern's formation.

The depths bottoms out approximately 3,300 feet beneath the surface. There are indications of numerous past cave-ins, likely resulting from tectonic activity and erosion caused by rainwater or groundwater, but it appears that the ground has remained stable since the last major cave-in.

Journal Entry

While investigating the hidden treasure, I found myself transported to a great height, near a lake that smelled of sulfur. Based on temperature and humidity, I believe it to have been the eastern lands I've read about before.
And there, a child gave me a white volume.
