The Bulbagarden Discord is the official Discord server for Bulbagarden, with channels to discuss various topics including Pokémon media and other community-oriented channels such as for posting user-generated art and discussing non-Pokémon video games. The Discord server was first opened to the public on October 18, 2016.

The Bulbagarden Discord is currently staffed by over a dozen moderators, led by Chief Discord Administrators Misty and abcboy. Their role is to make sure conversation flows smoothly, without disruption from inappropriate content or heated arguments.

History

The Discord server was initially created by Archaic on July 13, 2016, and was opened to the public later that year on October 18, 2016. It was conceived as a modern counterpart for the Bulbagarden IRC server and to function alongside the Bulbagarden forums as part of Bulbagarden's community efforts. As part of that year's Christmas Contests, the Discord server began holding Rapidash Trivia, which continues to be held as part of Bulbagarden's annual Holiday Event.

2017

The first Chief Discord Administrator was Rocket Queen, who held the position from March 24, 2017, to October 29, 2017. During his tenure, the Discord server held its first staff drive and created a #suggestions channel in which users could suggest and vote on improvements to the server, such as new emojis. A music bot named DJ Mary after the in-game character was also added to the server.

Upon his promotion to Social Media Coordinator, Hanzo promoted then-moderator Froyo to the position. Around the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the Bulbagarden Discord held its second staff drive. Many changes were made while he held the position, such as briefly removing the #offtopic channel and launching a #writing channel in which users could share and discuss fanwork.

2018

On March 8, 2018, Froyo appointed moderator dragon_nataku as Deputy Chief Discord Administrator, who would later replace him as Chief Discord Administrator on April 15, 2018, upon his resignation from the Discord staff. Moderators abcboy and Saphir were later made Deputy Chief Discord Administrators on May 27, 2018. In January 2019, the Discord held its third staff drive. A Pokémon catching game called Tilia was added to the server on November 15, 2018, and was moved to a separate server on September 22, 2019. The logo for the server was also changed from fuchsia to cyan in August 2019.

2019

On December 29, 2019, dragon_nataku stepped down and Saphir took their place as Chief Discord Administrator. On August 18, 2020, Saphir was removed as the Chief Discord Administrator, and Misty and abcboy were made the new Chief Discord Administrators.
