Um... the most recent revision seems very... opinionated, to say the least. --TTEchidna 12:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

The revision about complaints of disambiguation pages taking too long to load, and how it is very simple to add (Pokémon) to the end? And if we don't have an Alt keyboard, we should buy one?  C Teng [talk] 16:57, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Just because a name could mean multiple things doesn't mean they should be a disambiguation page. For example, if I were searching Primeape, I would not be looking for Ash's Primeape. Why not just make the Primeape (Pokémon) page "Primeape," and have a link at the top directing to Ash's primeape? Does anyone agree?  C Teng [talk] 16:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

You already mentioned this and got answered on several other talk pages. This has already been debated here several times, and this is how we do it around here. --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 16:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
The users of Bulbapedia decided to keep the pages as-is. The reason being because it's consistent. Look at the pages of Pikachu and Psychic. Regardless of how many pages are associated with the subject, it's consistent, as TTE drove home until there was nothing to drive home to. This issued has been discussed to death, and we came to an agreement on it. --PAK Man Talk 17:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Disambiguations should be for ALL pages. There is a better way to resolve targets of higher priority

Okay so, there is a trend where many of the disambiguation pages are being cut down, removing many entries for the sake of only listing "terms that users might be looking for." And while sure, this makes some amount of sense, but I just do not agree from a philosophy angle. This is a wiki for Pokémon, it should be designed such that if someone wants to dig into the most silly, most obscure, and most asinine portions of the brand, they can do so. Making all of those odd and weird pages be linked to less often because they somehow don't "deserve" to be considered important enough to be on a disambiguation page seems like the wrong choice. I believe TFwiki has a better solution than deciding which entries to cull.

TFwiki disambiguation pages for characters have four sections. (Linked here is an example, namely the disambiguation page for Bumblebee.) The second is the most "normal": Entitled "Full list of X", it just goes through every character of that name in release year order. It's the first that's interesting. This section, "Major X" includes the major characters of that name, as well as any franchises with that name, laid out in a grid using an image for each and linking to all of their subpages.

(For our purposes, the other sections are less important, but they are "Media with X in the title" and "Not to be confused with".)

I propose we borrow the concept of "Major X" wholesale. As for what that would mean:

  • Video games and characters from video games go in the "Major X" section, each with a representative image
    • Characters with counterparts have all of those counterparts listed below the source character. These only use their tags if they have the same name. If their names are different, then both the name and the tag are listed.

The full listing of items is unchanged. Yes, this means there are two entries for the same thing on the same page. This is fine, because by presenting them in different ways both are useful for different reasons.

To demonstrate the point, here is an article which shows an example for "Major concepts with the name 'Red'" User:Salmancer/Disambiguation Red example (The TFG figures aren't under Red's image because this wiki does not treat Green and Yellow as characters, and therefore this means collectables based on a character are not themselves incarnations of characters. Also I didn't feel like dealing with TFG ID because there probably isn't a display override, which is needed to not have "Red (TFG)",) Salmancer (talk) 03:58, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
