Now a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, Liko gets lookout duty, but the Brave Olivine must land on an island for repairs. Soon, Liko notices Fuecoco is missing and realizes it must have fallen off the airship. She and Sprigatito search for it, but they’re chased by wild Pokémon who are angry that Fuecoco ate their food. Meanwhile, Fuecoco meets Roy, a boy who lives on the island and dreams of becoming a Pokémon Trainer. Eventually, Roy and Fuecoco meet up with Liko, but the wild Pokémon remain angry, so Friede and Captain Pikachu come to the rescue. The Rising Volt Tacklers bid farewell to Roy, but he’s conflicted…

Plot

Waking up aboard the Brave Olivine, Liko changes to her everyday clothes, having chosen to wear them instead of her school uniform. She and Sprigatito hear a strange noise from outside, which turns out to come from Fuecoco. Joining the other Rising Volt Tacklers, Friede assigns her and Sprigatito to watch over the observation deck, which they're happy to do. However, soon after they're given this responsibility, the airship starts losing altitude. Friede spots a familiar island nearby and pilots the ship there, docking it in a rocky valley. In a crew gathering, Orla reveals that the ship's gasbag has ruptured from several spots, threatening to strand them on the island. Friede decides to seek help from an old man who looked after him and lives on this island. As he flies off with his Charizard, Fuecoco runs after it and ends up sliding and falling off the edge of the Wing Deck.

Feeding the Pokémon aboard the airship, Liko notices that Fuecoco is not present. She asks the crew members in case any of them has seen it, but while none of them has, they still tell her various things about it; from Murdock, she learns that it's a big eater; Ludlow explains that it likes to sing, as Liko saw before, but it'll stop singing if anyone sees it; and Mollie reveals that Fuecoco has lots of admiration towards Friede's Charizard, which could even be the reason why it's traveling with them. Checking the Wing Deck, Liko sees the drag market left behind by Fuecoco, realizing it must've fallen off the airship. On the beach below, she and Sprigatito find Fuecoco's footprints and start following them. Fuecoco, meanwhile, satisfies its hunger by eating a pile of Berries it found, while a boy named Roy attends an online class via his Rotom Tablet. All of his friends in the class are already Pokémon Trainers, but since Roy's home island doesn't have any Trainers, he doesn't know how to catch himself a Pokémon. He does have plans, though, but to realize them, he's going to need a partner. Meanwhile, Liko finds the remains of the Berries that Fuecoco had eaten, only to be attacked and chased by a group of angry forest Pokémon right after.

After finishing the day's classes and watching a Nidothing video, Roy makes his way to his secret base in the woods, only to find it ransacked. Spotting a set of footprints and following the sound of a song, he eventually finds Fuecoco singing on a hill. When he approaches it to compliment its singing talent, Fuecoco gets flustered and runs off, with Roy giving chase. He eventually manages to catch Fuecoco when he saves it from falling into a ravine, bringing him to a viewing distance of the Brave Olivine in the process. While Friede fails to get help from the local elder in getting repair materials for the balloon and hearing that the forest Pokémon are going wild, Roy talks with Fuecoco, being amazed to see a Pokémon he's never seen before and asking it to sing again. At first, Fuecoco is reluctant, but further compliments from Roy encourage it to sing again, with Roy joining in.

As Roy tells Fuecoco about his dreams of traveling the world, he suddenly hears Liko's scream in the distance as the forest Pokémon, now including a pair of Scyther, continue to chase her, and rushes off to help. Tossing a rock against some trees, he's able distract the Pokémon and rescue Liko. Once in a safe spot, they introduce themselves to each other, with Liko also telling Roy Fuecoco's name. Roy showcases his treasure: an artifact he calls the Ancient Poké Ball. His grandfather found it years ago but never managed to open it, so he suspects it's empty. His dream is to explore the world like the ancient adventurer who's said to have met Legendary Pokémon and visited places no one has been to before.

The forest Pokémon suddenly find them again. Liko tries to fight them off with Sprigatito, but as Fuecoco is unable to use any Fire moves, they're quickly tied up by Caterpie and Weedle's String Shot and pulled to the spot where Fuecoco had eaten a pile of Berries, which had actually been the forest Pokémon's food stash. Friede arrives to help, though he chooses not to use Charizard's fire, saying it'd worsen the situation. Instead, he and Captain Pikachu charge ahead, weaving and dodging String Shots until all the agitated Pokémon are caught up in the strings instead and then calms them down by feeding them Lum Berries and frees Liko and Roy. Roy, amazed by Friede's skills, asks if he's a Pokémon Professor, which he admits to be true, surprising Liko, as she had not been aware that Friede was a Professor. Before leaving, Liko insists on staying for a bit as he and Roy gather some Berries to make up for the ones eaten by Fuecoco, much to the forest Pokémon's delight. Liko heads back to the Brave Olivine with Friede and Fuecoco, though Roy starts missing Fuecoco as soon as it's gone.

At night, while Liko is woken up by the sound of Fuecoco's singing and Roy finds himself unable to sleep, the Explorers are contacting Hamber, a butler working for the organization's leader, Gibeon. Amethio asks him to not tell Gibeon anything yet, as he already has his next move in mind. Hamber accepts this request and warns Amethio to not underestimate Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers. The call ends, and Amethio has the Explorers' submarine head towards the tracking device attached to the Brave Olivine.
