Release information
This card was included in the Neo Genesis expansion, first released in the Japanese Gold, Silver, to a New World... expansion. It was reprinted in the Japanese Pokémon VS expansion. It was reprinted again in the Expedition Base Set with the name Power Charge, first released in the Japanese Base Expansion Pack. It was later reprinted in the EX Deoxys expansion with the original name (Energy Charge), first released in the Japanese Rayquaza and Deoxys Constructed Starter Decks.
Due to the fact that: this card's name at the time of Power Charge's original Expedition Base Set release, and its effect slightly differed from Power Charge; it was ruled that "Energy Charge" and "Power Charge" were not the same card in the English-language printings. French, Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish prints of Power Charge still bore the name Energy Charge however. A similar situation would later affect Moo-Moo Milk from Neo Genesis and Moomoo Milk from HeartGold & SoulSilver, where slight differences in name and effect resulted in a ruling that they were two different cards.
