Release information

This card was included in the Base Set with artwork by Ken Sugimori, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack. It was reprinted in the Base Set 2 expansion. It was reprinted again as a Reverse Holofoil given out at BattleZone events in February 2003 as part of the Best of Game promotional set. This print has a gold "Winner" stamp in the bottom right corner of the artwork. A Jumbo version of this print was also released, but lacks the Reverse Holofoil treatment. A special reprint with the same artwork by the same artist was included in the Platinum expansion, first released in the Japanese Galactic's Conquest expansion.

Trivia

  • The Best of Game print erroneously has 60 HP instead of 70 HP. This is most likely intentional because Wizards of the Coast openly threatened Nintendo in a defense operation dubbed "Scorched Earth Mode", in response to the expiry of their license for printing Pokémon cards in 2003.

Origin

This card's English Base Set, Base Set 2 and Best of Game Pokédex entries comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green. The Platinum Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon FireRed.
