A Let's Play video, commonly abbreviated as LP, is a type of user-created video often posted on video-sharing sites such as YouTube. Let's Play videos offer recorded walkthroughs of gameplay for various video games, including commentary by the video's creator(s).

Let's Play videos are popular among fans for a variety of reasons. Some users enjoy the commentary, others will watch the videos to learn gameplay secrets or to discover the solution to a challenging part of the game. Pokémon games are particularly popular subjects for Let's Play videos, due to the popularity of the series as well as the wide range of possibilities each gamer's playthrough has to offer, given the wide variety of obtainable Pokémon as well as varying movesets, etc.

History

Although the oldest Pokémon Let's Play has been lost; it was likely created by the YouTuber Marriland.[citation needed]

Bulbagarden once hosted a video walkthrough of Pokémon LeafGreen on its YouTube channel and had a one-time partnership with Chuggaaconroy for his Let's Play of Pokémon Crystal.
