Talk:Chain breeding
Sketch
Can anyone come up with a different example of a move that requires Sketching it to pass it down? The old Heal Bell example doesn't work in Generation III and onward since Skitty, a 25% male species who learns Heal Bell by level, shares both its egg groups with Snubbull and one egg group with Chansey. --Shiningpikablu252 16:29, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ummm... I think something with Vulpix and Energy Ball - although I believe any Grass-type Pokémon that are in the Ground egg group and can learn Energy Ball through TM could pass it down. However, since I uh.. don't have that TM anymore, I - waitasecond. Oh, wait, no. Meganium's not in the Ground egg group. Never mind. >__>; Anyway, I'm PRETTY sure you can only pass down Energy Ball onto Vulpix via Smeargle... Tina☆♥♫δ 17:14, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Girafarig would like to have a word with you. So would Seedot's evolution tree and Leafeon. In fact, a valid chain for Energy Ball on Vulpix is Lotad → Seedot → Vulpix. --Shiningpikablu252 17:31, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Energy ball doesn't work as it is still a TM in gen 5 so you could just breed it from a Ninetails.(Maybe we could add somthing about breeding gen 4 demoted TMs and tutor moves such as dark pulse and earth power that can be breed onto a Dieno only through a pokemon that learned them in gen 4?)Dragrath1 15:12, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Sprites
The sprite for the Garchomp is a male(♂), not a female(♀). There's a notch in it's fin.--sorou 22:38, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- All better now. —darklordtrom 22:46, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- But wait, it still shows a male Garchomp!--sorou 23:04, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Egg calculator
The current calculator, "waiting for seedot" is outdated, being for gen IV and down, but not for gen V, is there one for gen V? --VictoryStar 03:30, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Longest breeding chain
Does anyone know which move on which Pokémon takes the most steps to breed in each Generation? I think it would make interesting trivia for this page, and provide a bit of perspective in terms of exactly how long a breeding chain for a single move can get. —AndyPKMN (talk) 02:20, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- For Gen VI, I think it's Wide Guard Honedge. Not completely sure though. Prior to that, there's a few that are simply impossible (like Head Smash Nosepass in HGSS or Lovely Kiss Smoochum in GS). The longest possible chains are probably only 3 or 4 long. --SnorlaxMonster 02:37, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- Probopass learns Wide Guard now, so it's not anymore. Which is the problem. "By generation" in this case is impossible on the merit of learnsets changing between games in the same generation, so where's the cut-off line on deciding what's the longest? You're better off sticking to one fact: the longest, most direct chain the games ever had (barring the clearly impossible ones like Head Smash Nosepass, learnset changes ruining said chain, and there being not too many chains with the same number of necessary fathers). Depth
This page seriously should be longer, or at least link to a list of all cases of chain-bred moves. - unsigned comment from Pseudonym (talk • contribs)
- Technically, all egg moves can be chain breed. Often they need to be that way to have Pokemon with more than one inheritable trait. This list could be done but I see no point other than trivia. There is just not much to say.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 11:33, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Merge
There's really not that much to say about chain breeding specifically. It's a fan name for a specific breeding technique, but it can easily be covered on the Pokémon breeding page. --SnorlaxMonster 10:54, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Well, no one has made any objections. There is just really no reason to keep this page seperate.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 23:54, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- I think this page should just be merged into "Pokémon breeding", too. --YoungMan16 (talk) 19:40, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
