Talk:Contact
I've added the section "Effects of contact" which needs expanding. I've begun with abilities that are affected by contact moves. -TIMMY 11:14, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
list of contact moves
A list of moves which make contact would be a good addition to this. Eric the espeon 14:05, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. Is it that hard to just copy from the Japanese version of the page? TorchicBlaziken (talk•edits) 18:13, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. This is a wiki. You're welcome to make changes yourself. —darklordtrom 18:34, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Damage type of Contact moves
The article states that
ever since the distinction between physical and special were no longer based on types, most moves that make contact are physical.
but it also states
Post-Gen IV, Damage dealing for moves that make contact are always calculated using the attacking Pokémon's Attack and the defending Pokémon's Defense.
This implies that special moves that make contact (according to the Japanese wiki page these are Trump Card, Grass Knot, Wring Out and Petal Dance) deliver physical damage despite having a special type. Please either clarify or correct this as appropriate ._. Hyperworm 13:11, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Smogon and other sites have counted these moves as special for years. If there was something like this, it might have been noticed by now. Still, someone should definitely test this. TorchicBlaziken (talk•edits) 01:49, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Multiple-hit moves and poison point
Poison point gives the pokemon a 30% chance to poison the enemy on contact. My question is, is this 30% chance processed for each hit of a multiple-hit move (say, fury swipes)? In other words, if I hit 5 times with fury swipes on a poke with poison point, do I get 5 chances for poison point to proc? Mafaraxas 23:34, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- Though I've never tested this, it makes sense. Each hit of moves like Fury Swipes has an individual chance of a critical hit, so I would assume that the same is true regarding activating contact Abilities. Superbreeder 21:55, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Type Balance Question
If a move does no effect on it's target; say Tackle on a ghost-type; does contact still occur? And thus contact related effects happen? Like Tackle on Yamask gives the attacking Pokémon it's Mummy, for example? Yes/No?
-Male gardevoir 10:32, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Tested it. The attack needs to succeed to count as contact. So if the Pokémon is immune to the attack, nothing happens. --SnorlaxMonster 11:59, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Earlier generations.
It goes at least as early as Gen III. And, while Leaf Blade is special due to being Grass-type, it makes contact. Magnitude doesn't make, like later. Marked +-+-+ 14:53, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Direct vs. Contact
I don't remember exactly which sign it was (I'll go looking for it), but in X & Y, moves that make contact are formally referred to as "direct moves"... Like, it literally says something to the effect of "such moves are called direct moves." Are we still going to use "contact" on the wiki? --GuyPerfect (talk) 04:54, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Pokérus?
The page claims that it can be used to spread Pokérus. But the Pokérus page on this very wiki says nothing about contact. If this is really a thing, that should be explained on Pokérus. If it is not, it should be removed from this page. As I am rather a newbie to this virus, I am not qualified to make that determination. --Aescula (talk) 08:36, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Knowing if a move makes contact
How is one supposed to tell if a move makes contact? It doesn't say right? Ethan (Discussion) 04:23, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
- Probably with abilities like static, cute charm, poison point, or flame body that leave an effect on Pokémon that make contact. ★Jo the Marten★ ಠ_ಠ♥ 07:01, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
User of move?
If a Pokémon A has an ability which is triggered by contact, when a Pokémon B attacks it with contact, then there will be a chance to trigger the ability. What about if A attacks B with contact, will it also trigger the ability? (Like spores, if I were a Mushroom Pokémon with spores, I'd just try my best to ram my body into my opponent so that it gets caught by my spore)- unsigned comment from Iosue (talk • contribs)
- You can see the answer from the article itself. Poison Touch and Tough Claws are only triggered when their owner attacks, while other Abilities are triggered only when their owner is attacked.--電禅Den Zen 08:59, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Mystery Dungeon
At least Rescue Team seems to make no difference for Abilities, so even Earthquake or Absorb can activate Poison Point. Eridanus (talk) 09:37, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
No status moves make contact?
IIRC, Tickle makes contact with its target, at least according to the official Ruby & Sapphire strategy guide. Is that something that was only true during Generation III, is it still the case, or is it total crock? --Luigifan 00:05, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
