Talk:Fur Coat (Ability)
Psyshock
Psyshock and Psycho Break are not affected, right? I know it says physical moves, but those are calculated weirdly, so I wonder if a note of it should be made if they aren't affected. I think it definitely deserves a mention, at least on their pages, if they are. --Wynd Fox 02:56, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Psyshock is affected. Fur Coat reduces the damage of any attack that would end up doing physical damage. Psyshock uses the attacker's Special Attack but deals physical damage. It has absolutely nothing to do with the defense stat itself. Acumenium (talk) 21:48, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Moves with fixed damage
Does Fur Coat affect moves like Seismic Toss, Super Fang, Bide, OHKO moves, and others that always deal a certain amount of damage?--ShadowLugiaEx (talk) 23:01, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Fur Coat should not be a variation of Huge and Pure Power
It does not double a stat. Rather, what it does is it cuts the damage of any attack that hits on your physical defense. This would even include Psyshock since it is a physical damage attack that utilizes the attacker's Special Attack stat.
A variation should be the same function. This Ability is not one. Acumenium (talk) 21:50, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- If anything, Ice Scales should not be a variation of the three (also see below). Nescientist (talk) 11:48, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Damage mechanics confirmation
I already tested this previously, but with the introduction of Ice Scales (which we know halves damage rather than double Sp.Def), I decided to test in Generation VIII as well, and was still able to get 2HP super-effective STAB damage (so it's still a boost in Defense).
