Smeargle

Why would you list Smeargle as the desired father when passing certain moves through breeding, unless there is no alternative (which there may not be any cases of at all)? Seems sloppy. For instance, why not just list Dunsparce as the desired father for Spite? --ANinyMouse 04:14, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Smeargle can learn practically any move through Sketch. SharKing 04:20, 25 August 2008 (UTC)SharKing

Will' O Wisp and Vulpix

Um...why does it say that Vulpix can only pass down Will O' Wisp in Generation III, if it can also learn it in Generation IV? - unsigned comment from MajinNecro69 (talkcontribs)

Because of the Will O' Wisp TM in IV. TinaTheKirlia 16:36, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Which means the passing down is automatic anyway, although it can be TM'd. TTEchidna 23:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

The Image

Why are we using the Fire Red/Leaf Green art work? Buizel1991 11:06, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Because that's the most recent artwork. Most of the Gen II Pokémon that got new art in FRLG didn't get HGSS art. Werdnae (talk) 22:01, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Name Origin

Seems to me the gar part of the original name may refer to Garmr[1]. It matches the theme of a hellhound pretty damn closely. --Vanya (talk) 08:24, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

classification error in origin

the tasmanian tiger/wolf may vaguely resemble a canine, but is absolutely in no way a "hound". how long has that been sitting there? thylacines are/were marsupials, and way closer to the tasmanian devil. Honestly, just. What in the world. i thought changing "hound" to "hound-like" and a little rearrangement would improve the sentence quite a lot, so i did.

Parallel with Mightyena?

So I've noticed a lot of similarities between Mightyena and Houndoom. Both are Dark types, have two species in their evolutionary lines, and are based on dogs. Most importantly, Poochyena and Mightyena are version exclusives to Diamond and White, while Houndour and Houndoom are exclusive to Pearl and Black. This seems like we could draw the conclusion that Mighyena and Houndoom are parallels, so should it be added to Trivia? Striker212 (talk) 18:50, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

  • also Poochyena and Houndour in White and Black respectively are both found at the same location (on Route 9 in swarms). This is also true in Diamond and Pearl (look it up if you don't believe me). Striker212 (talk) 01:34, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Ok, mate. I added in Houndour's page that Houndour could be seen as a parallel of Poochyena. MageMagius (talk) 11:28, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Origin

Do you suppose Houndoom is also based on the Jersey Devil? It also has horns and a forked tail. Macpika (talk) 19:50, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

I think that Houndoom's design more look like a traditional picture of a devil (evident by the horns and forked tail). MageMagius (talk) 11:34, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

A question regarding the "Harrison's Houndoom" section.

<quote>It was often seen outside of its Poké Ball.</quote>

Yeah, literally every Pokémon is seen outside its Poké Ball during battle, why is this worth pointing out? Blaze The Movie Fan (talk) 13:27, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Maybe in this case, it's like Ash's Pikachu, or Bonnie's Dedenne. MageMagius (talk) 11:15, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Houndoom's Sprite In SwSh?

In the sprite section of the game data, I saw that there are links to sprites of Houndoom in SwSh, whereas in the move section, it was said that Houndoom couldn't be obtained in SwSh. Is this some kind of an error? MageMagius (talk) 11:13, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

It's a user jumping the gun and implementing a template that wasn't meant to be put onto these pages yet. It'll be fixed soon --Spriteit (talk) 00:13, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
If anybody had told me to stop, I would have. Zurqoxn (talk) 00:59, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Is all good, they would have been added in someway eventually, just the pages will be a little off for a bit till we do. At this stage may as well add all the boxes and then edit accordingly instead of having half done half not. --Spriteit (talk) 01:40, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
The only reason I did them in the first place is because the bot did some of the ones that had broken image links, such as Psyduck. Though I just now realized those are the few that are in the expansions but not the base swsh. Zurqoxn (talk) 02:13, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
