Talk:James Carter Cathcart
Article name change
I've been out of the Pokémon loop for quite some time, but it appears that Jimmy Zoppi/Billy Beach is now being credited under his real name, Carter Cathcart. Since it's common practice for us to have VAs listed under their real names if they've been credited under it in Pokémon (ie, Rodger Parsons, Jason Griffith) should we rename the article to Carter Cathcart? It's apparent that he has no problem having his real name connected to the show (heck, there's a clip of him doing an interview on YouTube where he fully admits that he's been credited as Jimmy Zoppi and Billy Beach), and the fact that he's now being credited under his real name gives support to this. Thoughts? --PAK Man Talk 03:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- According to his Facebook, his full name is "James Carter Cathcart," so "Jimmy" is still his name. :P But I don't see what's wrong with having the page use their real name. ★Jo the Marten★ ಠ_ಠ♥ 04:05, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- But his real last name is Cathcart, so I think that should be changed. And Carter is his middle name. サトシ 18:29, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Last name
His real last name is Catchcart, so shouldn't this be at James Carter Cathcart? I mean it's not like he hasn't been credited with that last name before. I think this should be moved. サトシ 21:30, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Also, he has never been credited in the anime as Jimmy Zoppi --サトシ 21:33, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
- That's actually not true. But I'm not against the move though. --ケンジのガール 22:59, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think we should only have the article use names he is credited as. Some actors prefer to keep their personal lives (including their birth name) separate from their professional lives. People will know who Jimmy Zoppi or Carter Cathcart are from the credits. I don't even know if we should have their full, birth names be mentioned on the page as a respect to their privacy. Just keep things on the professional side, with maybe a short, not too personal, bio. ★Jo the Marten★ ಠ_ಠ♥ 04:16, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Well, then should we rename Kayzie Rogers "Jamie Peacock"? And Jimmy himself uses his real name plenty of times, I don't think he has anything wrong with it. AND we have links that read "Carter Cathcart." We could always just rename it "Carter Catchcart." I support the move. サトシ 04:48, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- In case you misunderstood, I'm not against moving it to Carter Cathcart. I was just against moving it to James Carter Cathcart. Kayzie Rogers is actually credited as Kayzie Rogers in BW with her work as Axew. So it is a credited name. That's all I'm saying, if it's used in the credits, we use it. - unsigned comment from Jo The Marten (talk • contribs) 04:54, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Then does this mean we should move it to Carter Cathcart? It's what he currently is credited is. サトシ 05:09, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Isn't this a bit of a slippery slope? It's not uncommon for VAs to be credited by a couple of different names. If we try to use the most recent one, we could very well end up moving articles routinely. I think we should use whichever name is used most often as opposed to most recently. Crystal Talian 05:14, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- He's mostly either been credited as James Carter Cathcart or Carter Cathcart. I don't see anything wrong with a move. And it doesn't seem like many would actually oppose it. サトシ 05:34, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- OK, we're not really getting anywhere with this. Again, should we move this to Carter Cathcart or not? サトシ 23:38, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hey guys, we need some more opinions. We haven't gone that much since December 31st. Now I'm not trying to be impatient, but you shouldn't just leave a talk section like that. I think we might need to start a consensus. サトシ 00:27, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- I say yes, make the move - it's his real name, and he hasn't gone by Jimmy Zoppi since in almost 6 years. But I think it makes more sense to move it to James Carter Cathcart while leaving the credits on the articles for James, Meowth etc. "Carter Cathcart", because while he currently goes by Carter Cathcart as a VA, as scriptwriter his name has appeared with the James since season 9. -Thingamajig257- 11:42, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- OK, let's do it! サトシ 23:44, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

I thought we needed mod/admin approval before moving? Crystal Talian 03:48, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hang on now. My intention was not to have everything moved back, I was only asking a question. I may be totally wrong. Crystal Talian 04:07, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
He's been very contradictory and using false information to back him up. No administrator actually said yes--SandmanDP 04:20, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
I am NOT using false info! Also I asked for a consensus, but no one bothered to do so. And chances are, the admins (no offense) would probably want to wait, I dunno, a few weeks? And PLEASE unprotect the article. It's not fair permanetly protect something. サトシ 22:09, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
It's impossible to protect an article "permanetly", as such a word does not exist. The reason you didn't get a response is because everyone is sick of you and the way you think you can do whatever you want. No administrator said yes, and you defied them by moving the page. You claim you're using facts, but have yet to provide evidence. Please leave this alone--SandmanDP 22:12, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- OK, A: I do have evidence about the name, most were not against it. Even the admins who were posting to this section didn't. And B: I am not intending to be the king of this. Also, Snorlax Monster did NOT provide an exp. date when he protected it, so it would seem like it was permanent. サトシ 22:19, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- If you really had evidence that it should be moved from Jimmy Zoppi, you would provide it. Claiming you have it and actually having it are two different things. And actually, you tried removing ALL REFERENCES[1] to the Jimmy Zoppi name, which exposes your agenda to have everything your way. That's vandalism. And the name you chose to move it to was the one name where there was a flat-out no from Jo, so not only did you not have approval, you had complete disapproval. So there will be no vote, no move. It's staying at Zoppi.--SandmanDP 22:24, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- @SandmanDP If you wanna see a proof, see this. -- ✔Poké.geek™✔ 22:46, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Which name is Tom Cruise known by? Is he Thomas Mapother? Or Tom Cruise? The administrators already decided, and you refuse to respect that. The page is not moving. People on Facebook use alternate display names all the time. MySpace should be treated no different in that regard
- @SandmanDP If you wanna see a proof, see this. -- ✔Poké.geek™✔ 22:46, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Might I also add that he's been Jimmy Zoppi more than any other name? He's only been Cathcart since this season. He was Zoppi for at least 7. He was Billy Beach inbetween. Zoppi wins by majority usage--SandmanDP 22:49, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- There seems to be a little confusion about exactly how and why I protected this page. I protected it only from moving; you are still free to edit it. Also, I protected it because the page was moved when people had not come to an agreement on the talk page yet. --SnorlaxMonster 07:53, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
I am willing to change my vote to Carter Cathcart as long as the lines about the Cathcart pseudonym (in the Zoppi version) are exchanged for lines about the Zoppi name ie "For the 4Kids-dubbed episodes of the anime, Cathcart used the name Jimmy Zoppi (bolded), his most well-known pseudonym". I think what irked me (second-)most about Satoshi101's edits was that he removed all references to the Zoppi name--SandmanDP 02:30, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Consensus Time
Here's a poll I created for this desicion. Feel free to vote your opinion, and then once this poll is closed, we'll see.* Whichever name gets the most votes (including my own vote) pretty much wins, once we've gotten clearance by an admin. Also, please post your comments above this heading if you have any more. サトシ 17:09, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Jimmy Zoppi (0) - SandmanDP*
James Carter Cathcart (1) - Thingamajig257
Carter Cathcart (7) - Satoshi101, Jo The Marten, Poke.geek, SandmanDP, Adyniz, Pokemaster97, Dennou Zenshi
Also, please note that I have the right to keep tally and add votes from other users if they have said so in the main headline. However, I will ask them to confirm this on their talk pages. サトシ 17:09, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
* This will be kept open until 19:00 (MST), January 20th.
- This poll is now closed, with the winner being Carter Cathcart. Once approval by an admin is received, the move will be made. サトシ 02:22, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- But for now, I'll move this talk page. サトシ 05:23, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- Two problems. One: Consensus polls should be closed by an admin. In this case, Kenji-Girl, as the Editorial Board member in charge of the relevant section, should at least have commented on the poll, even if she chooses not to vote. If she chooses not to vote, she should be the one that closes it. While I seriously doubt it will have an effect on the outcome, being the one that called the poll doesn't give you the right to close it. Two: The talk page of an article must NEVER be moved separately to the article with which it corrseponds. It is moved when the article is moved and not before. The sole exception is archiving, which should be done by an admin. Werdnae (talk) 06:44, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- OK, A: KG did comment on the move, and she had no preference. B:I could not move the corresponding page because the move tab was protected. And C:I have the right to decide how long a poll is kept open, and after that time, the poll is automatically closed (anyone could infer that!) The only reason I said "poll closed" is a reminder that the deadline has come. I am aware the "Elite Fours" (staff) have to have some place in it, but they clearly have; a couple both voted and commented on the section above this. I have clearly stated that this section is solely for the poll. サトシ 16:55, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- Don't you think the page was protected for a reason? It was protected so some regular user can't just go moving a page under discussion whenever they wanted to. When the time is right it will be moved by the staff. Stop taking it upon youself to decide everything. It comes off as a little bossy. --Pokemaster97 21:32, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe we should wait for more than seven people to vote? And like Werd said, the closing of the poll should be left up to an admin. I say the poll should be closed a week from 0:00 January 29, UTC. Pretty much a week from today. Hopefully more people can have their say by then. Sound fair? --ケンジのガール 22:24, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- OK, sounds fair. サトシ 04:59, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- We have his MySpace and Facebook pages, why doesn't someone ask him which he would prefer? Also, since it seems we are currently going with "Carter Cathcart", we should follow the MoS and put his full name on the first line (so "James Carter Cathcart, often credited as simply Carter Cathcart, is a voice actor for the English-language dub of the Pokémon anime."). Personally, I would also list his other pseudonyms (Jimmy Zoppi and Billy Beach) in the opening line too, but that is not standard. --SnorlaxMonster 07:39, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- We could ask him personally, but then there wouldn't be any point in a vote. I might just do that if I could, but I am not on Myspace or Facebook. But we should not forget the need to be consistent per Bulbapedia standards. サトシ 23:50, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, the point of asking him personally was to override the need for the poll. We shouldn't dismiss asking him because we already made a decision via poll. As for listing other pseudonyms in the opening paragraph, while it is not currently standard, my suggestion is more "make it standard".--SnorlaxMonster 09:33, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- I think we should ask him, as well. It's much more professional than a poll. I like the idea of including pseudonyms into the opening paragraph, and making that the standard. Many, many voice actors have pseudonyms. It makes more sense to include them right at the start. After all, if we just set up redirects and information isn't immediately visible, it could cause some confusion. Crystal Talian 09:41, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I just listened to an interview wondering the same thing about what name he would like to be called by. He doesn't seem to have any preference, as far as I'm concerned. However, he does use James Carter Cathcart on both his MySpace and Facebooks, and his stage name usually seems to be Carter Cathcart or his MySpace/Facebook name. サトシ 00:19, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- It's been about a week, and we still don't know what to do. It seems like most people are in favor of Carter Cathcart, but we still remain confused and unsure. I think that since James/Carter doesn't seem to care, we should maybe see about that poll again. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach me on my talk page. - unsigned comment from Satoshi101 (talk • contribs)

Full Name
Going to bring this up again - I think the article name should be changed to James Carter Cathcart. While he is often credited as just "Carter Cathcart", his full name includes "James" and the article title should reflect that because it's what is done with all of the other VA's (if I'm not mistaken).
