I don't like the picture for snatch (with liepard on it) because it doesn't show the actural animation of snacth.

Targets for Snatch

I'm not sure if this changed since the game that I have done it on, but I've managed to use Snatch successfully with my own pokemon in Colosseum (they're all double battles). I had my Umbreon use Snatch, and then my Meganium used Synthesis, resulting in my Umbreon snatching the effects of Synthesis and using it on itself. I didn't realize that this was possible when it first occurred and since then, I was able to repeat it without fail. However, I do not have a DS, so I wouldn't be able to try it on the newer generations, and I'll admit that I never tried emulating the same effects on Pokemon Emerald. Can someone confirm that the targets for Snatch is only the opponent's pokemon and that a friendly pokemon's effects cannot be snatched? Samuikion 18:51, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Rest

Can Snatch steal the healing ability of Rest? Thanks Pokepro97 (talk) 02:14, 14 April 2014 (UTC).

Yes. glikglak 02:26, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Does it also steal the sleeping, or just the healing? Should this be added to the article as it is a healing ability with a secondary effect and they should be elaborated on.
Rest can be stolen and used by Snatch. The user of Snatch will fall asleep as expected. Since generation 5, however, the move can only be stolen if the target could have used Rest, regardless of whether or not the user of Snatch could use it. --GuyPerfect (talk) 16:59, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

Comprehensive Research

I spent the past four days breeding a truly impressive number of Smeargles, using Sketch so many times that they now collectively know all 239 status moves. I then pitted them against one another in battle, using Snatch against the whole lot, even obvious duds like Splash and Rainy Day.

My findings were compiled into a new and improved Effects section of the Snatch article. There are some anomalous behaviors, so be sure to check it out!

The following moves changed snatchability between generations, and their articles were updated to reflect that:

The following articles listed the incorrect snatchability and were corrected:

Let me say that this is pretty awesome!!
Do you plan to update List of modified moves? You're certainly more qualified, but when I have the time, I would do it, too. (And maybe others as well.)
Also, why do you think Swallow and Rest behavior is a bug (and not intended)? And just to be sure, I understand that if a full HP mon snatches a weakened one's Rest, it would snatch it, but the snatched Rest would fail, is that correct? (And if the original Rest user is at full HP, Rest would just fail on its side, and Snatch would fail as well?) Nescientist (talk) 18:06, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that List of modified moves was a thing. I'll look into it!
The behavior of Snatch with regards to Rest and Swallow is the result of out-of-order processing, where the move fails prior to the Snatch mechanic. They probably didn't catch it in testing because who would use a move that won't work? Other than me, that is. The reason I'm calling that a bug is because Rest and Swallow are the exception: other failing moves are still snatchable, such as Moonlight or Recycle, even if their conditions fail. It's just those two moves that, for whatever reason, short-circuit Snatch.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks! Nescientist (talk) 18:21, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

I've checked the list of modified moves regarding Snatch, and it appears it was already complete and correct. Tiddlywinks added that there a while ago. Nescientist (talk) 15:41, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks for the verification. I'm pleased to report that I didn't miss any, and that testing everything manually turned up information on the oddball cases like with Rest or Acupressure. I'm now satisfied that we've got the best info on Snatch available. --GuyPerfect (talk) 16:43, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
