Getting the Pokemon marked with *?

I haven't accually played DP before, so I wouldn't know that much about it, but it seems rather odd that Pokemon in the article that are marked with * are "Found before getting the National Dex". Does this mean that those Pokemon are ONLY available before getting the National Dex, or does it just mean that those can be caught before getting the National Dex, and will still be available there after you get the National Dex? Someone might need to clear that up a bit.

Yes, that's what it means. They're available before the National Dex, but will still show up to annoy you after you get it too. --DarkfireTaimatsu 19:14, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Sprites

Like I said, I don't feel like getting in an edit war over something like this, so here I am, discussing it on the talk page like a Bulbapedian should when there's a conflict. Now, the sprites are good for nothing but decorative purposes, added for no apparent reason other than the one I just stated, yet I can't remove them without having my edits reverted (again, for no apparent reason). Personally, I think they should go; if people are so interested in seeing the Pokémon they can catch, they can click on the links. However, if I am overruled and the sprites stay, rather than being inconsitent with every other article I visit, sprites should be added to those as well (though I don't see why we should have to do this in the first place). // SzayelAporroGranz21:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

All I am getting is, "I don't want to was bytes." That's what I'm getting.PokeManiac102 21:59, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I couldn't make any sense of what you just said, but I'll simplify my first post: The sprites are nothing but eye candy and don't belong on this page. If sprites are readded and kept for good, then the same should apply to every article with a table like this. // SzayelAporroGranz 22:22, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Pokemaniac to leave the sprites in. Until an admin decides, I'll put the sprites back up since it's majority. I also agree that this should be for every article with a table like this. --Theryguy512 22:23, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
And if you think that sprites are eye candy, why don't you just remove every single image from this website?!PokeManiac102 22:24, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Lol. FYI, that was not be determined as literally take them down, don't. --Theryguy512 22:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm not that crazy. I was talking about this specific page, PM (notice I said "on this page", not site). // SzayelAporroGranz 22:30, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
No, sorry if you thought I was directing that comment to you. I was putting that in case a new user looks here and sees the directions to take them all off lol. --Theryguy512 22:32, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually you said "The sprites" not "The sprites on this page" and if you think that these sprites are eyeball chocolate, why don't you get rid these sprites off of every page?PokeManiac102 22:33, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Most Pokémon sites have trainer sprites and Pokémon sprites hanging around. Not too recently, either way, the sprites have been added to many articles, most of them Sinnoh's routes. The only reason I see to get rid of them would be "to save space", not that that space won't be filled anyway. It's a wiki. It never shrinks. TTEchidnaGSDS! 22:36, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
That's what I was saying above even though I mispelled it. SzayelAporro doesn't want to waste bytes.PokeManiac102 22:38, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Not once, in my edit summaries nor the talk page, did I so much as imply it was a waste of space. But whatever; I heard an admin's opinion, so I'm happy. // SzayelAporroGranz 23:22, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I know people have decided already, but here's my opinion... if we're gonna keep the sprites, I'm gonna say that we use the {{MS}} or {{Ani}} templates, as I find the raw code is hard to look at, but that's just me.. that, and use the static sprites perhaps.. again, I find that the animated ones are overused and they just look odd to me alongside static text and such. I just think that the Ani sprites are good for colorful pages, but come on, there's the static ones too... Tina δ 23:39, 23 January 2008 (UTC) Tina δ 23:37, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh certainly. If we were ever to put the Pokémon sprites on these pages, they'd be the static MSes, just like in the Pokédex lists. TTEchidnaGSDS! 01:09, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Ack. You guys already put them here. VERY bad form putting them in the name box. TTEchidnaGSDS! 01:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Porygon rarity...?

Does anyone think that Porygon may have less of a chance of appearing through Mr. Backlot than other Pokémon? I'm certainly getting suspicious. I've resetted and talked to the guy over 100 times, and Porygon wasn't mentioned even once! And nobody say it's because Porygon was already in the garden-- that was Chansey. SharKing 23:44, 22 August 2008 (UTC)SharKing

Its the same with Eevee. I would think the more useful Pokemon would be harder to get through the resetting than the less useful ones like Igglybuff who I got 7 times in a row once. Dexington 21:35, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Why?

  • Another common trick is to put a level 18 Pokémon (one that has not yet gained any experience, or the trick fails) in the first slot of the party and use a Repel, though this returns only Pikachu and the daily Pokémon, like Chansey. This method may be used to obtain rare held items, like Lucky Egg, Light Ball, Oval Stone or Moon Stone, as seen in this video

WHY?--Wowy 07:27, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Pikachu?

Why does it say that I can't catch Pikachu here in Platinum, and that the ONLY catchable Pokémon in the Trophy Garden in Platinum are special Pokémon? I want a Pikachu in Platinum when it comes out... --Alex S. 03:11, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Pokemon Mansion SCREAMS for an article!

I find it pretty annoying that Sinnoh's Pokemon Mansion does not have its article and the only article related to this place is Trophy Garden. The Mansion is a distinct place, it appeared in anime and certainly deserves its article. It is NOT to be unified with Trophy Garden! I can start a stub, but it won't have too much information. --Maxim 14:46, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Still a stub?

This article looks pretty fleshed out to me. Is the Trophy Garden page still a stub? If not, someone should remove the stub template at the bottom of the page. Jacobe 21:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Level problems...

In Platinum, they can be level 22. I might have even encountered level 23.Nintendofan146B 20:25, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the levels changed within games and no one's fixed the page yet. Feel free to update. — THE TROM — 20:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Frequency of Backlot Pokemon

It seems to me that (depending on the game), Backlot seems to 'favor' certain pokemon over others. Case in point, over the last 30 days I've gone to him once a day, everyday, in my Diamond game, and he's mentioned Porygon 4 times, but hasn't given me a single Bonsly. Even before that, I went to him every so often (At least 60 times sporadically) and didn't get a single Bonsly. It seems to me that Backlot's choice is decided in a way similar to which pokemon you run into during a random encounter in tall grass. TCABF 20:49, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's right. It's absolutely random. He doesn't cycle through them all before he repeats himself. While it also seems likely that there is a degree of rarity involved, I haven't seen any published evidence of this, just a few fan theorems on forums and whatnot. — THE TROM — 21:12, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, in that case, I might do a study sometime, talking to him a certain number of times (Save and restart each time) and recording the data to see if I can figure out the rarities. Should 300 times be enough for good data, or should I go for 500? TCABF 21:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
500's a nice number... — THE TROM — 02:14, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Backlot?

Backlot? Where is that? I want a Cleffa. Ugoz 15:04, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, Backlot is the name of the owner of the mansion and garden. It is actually located sout of Hearthome City in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. You can also get to it by going to the bottom left path at Pastoria City and following that. Solar Dragon 15:08, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
I forgot that was his name. I'm so stupid Ugoz 18:48, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Castform

I've caught Casstform in platinum without needed to speak to Mr.Blacklot.--Grungle7 10:14, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

2 special pokemon?

Once I was told by Backlot, that plusle was in the garden and I found plusle, the regular pokemon, and clefairy! Same thing with castform! Isn't clefairy a special pokemon? PS:I am playing Platinum--Minimag 07:15, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

You find the previous day's Pokémon too. So you have 48 hours to catch each one. —darklordtrom 07:16, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Image

Can someone upload an image up here? It looks VERY empty... ht14 02:34, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

By image, I mean the image of the garden... ht14 02:34, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Tell me I'm I'm imagining this...

Do the levels of the Pokémon increase after getting the Ndex? I caught a Ditto at Lv 23 and a something I don't remember at Lv 22... Oh, and... nothing.

TogePikachu 16:08, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Ditto

Something doesn't look right about Ditto's levels section... ~Enervation 22:13, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Ditto

This page says that Ditto can be caught at level 16, 18 or 22, while it can only be caught at 22 in Platinum. However, Ditto itself can only be caught here in Platinum. Tk3141 02:55, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Encounter Rates

Once Backlot's special Pokémon are introduced to the garden, how are the others' encounter rates changed to compensate?

I'm curious because I recently read about how the Great Marsh compensates for its changing Pokémon by reducing the rates of Marill and Quagsire in D/P, or Wooper in Platinum (refer to Pokémon → Changing Pokémon to see what I mean; I can't DL it for some reason). I suspect that the Trophy Garden does something similar, but if it does, I don't know how. SharKing (talk) 17:55, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Bill's Secret Garden reference

As noted on the talk page for Sea Cottage, Bill's Secret Garden is one of the most infamous Pokémon rumours of all time[1][2][3]. Several other infamous rumours such as the truck and Mewthree are mentioned on this wiki due to their infamy. Because of this, I feel that the Trophy Garden's reference to the Bill's Secret Garden rumour should be retained, and I would appreciate that anyone seeking to remove this from the article engage with me here first before deleting it. --Poppy :3 12:59, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

All those sites are clickbait sites on par with buzzfeed and does not make it "infamous". The Mew rumor is the most well known rumor of the three, while Mewthree is part of the Fakemon article, so I treat that as talking about "Mewthree the fakemon" and not "Mewthree the rumor". The "Secret Garden" is just not as well known as the other two.--ForceFire 13:49, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
In addition to what I said before, the Trophy Garden isn't a reference to the "rumor", if it's not referencing anything at all. Unlike the Lava Cookie reference where it was blatant.--ForceFire 13:51, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Special Pokemon levels

I just found a level 22 Castform and Minun while playing Platinum, the article lacks it I think. Will be catching other trophy garden pokemons in the next days anyways, so I can update this post if necessary. Image link: [4] EDIT: added level 22 Plusle .Rawr! (Talk) 00:28, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
