Talk:Vikavolt (Pokémon)
Origin
Based on the apparent English name "Vikavolt" (which seems to have been leaked and has been reported on sites like Polygon and Kotaku) and this Pokémon's general appearance, I'm led to suspect that this Pokémon may be based at least partially on the Vic Viper from the classic video game Gradius. Would that be considered a credible origin for this Pokémon, or should we wait for an official English name reveal and/or further evidence? --AndyPKMN (talk) 17:12, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
- As a rule, we're gun shy about copyrighted stuff unless there's been an official statement about it. (It's been a problem before.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:39, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
- It probably shots electricity like a railgun and, considering how it uses Charjabug, it seems to be based on battery clamps. The wing cover also looks like hendles, here in red and black. --Tano (talk) 12:40, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
Russian name
Could someone please add this to the in other languages section?

Type-effectiveness Template
Asking here since I don't know any better place to do so. For the newly-revealed Pokémon, are we purposefully omitting the type-effectiveness chart in case there are any changes to specific weaknesses and resistances, or has it just not been added to the appropriate pages yet? For a Pokémon like this which has both its type and ability revealed it'd seem like something simple enough to add... --AndyPKMN (talk) 16:30, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
English name
Where does "Vika" come from?Christian (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
- My guess (as mentioned earlier on the page) is "Vic Viper", a spaceship from the classic arcade game Gradius that this Pokémon highly resembles. But absent any sort of official confirmation it's hard to tell for sure. --AndyPKMN (talk) 20:42, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
- My guess is that "vi" comes from "vibration" (as it vibrates its wings while flying) or "vizor" (its eyes are vizor-like and ties with spaceship inspiration) and "ka" comes from "cable" (its legs look like power cables and ties with it plugging them into Charjabug). --Vladimirescu (talk) 17:24, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Whoever suggested "wicga" from Old English as the origin doesn't know what they're talking about. The "cg" digraph in Old English is pronounced with a hard "j" sound, or "dg", like in "bridge", so "wicga" is nothing like "vika", it's more like "widga", and is the source of "wig" in "earwig".
"Vika" is Finnish for bug, so that could be where it comes from. Logo7 (talk) 00:42, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- "Vika" doesn't mean insect in Finnish, it means "computer bug" or "defect"
Basis
I know that it's supposed to be based off of a stag beetle, but its jaws could be based off of crocodile clips, which help provide a temporary electric connection. It is a Bug/Electric type after all. Logo7 (talk) 16:10, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I mean alligator clips. However, Vikavolt's jaws could also take inspiration from a clamp meter, a multimeter which has a clamp on the top (like Vikavolt's jaws) to measure an electric current (Bug/ELECTRIC type). Just adding on to my comment from before. I hope that this could help reveal the true origins of these new Pokémon. Logo7 (talk) 21:37, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed. As I wrote above, considering how it uses Charjabug as a battery, it seems to be based on battery clamps, with the wing cover looking like hendles, here in red and black.
- It also probably shots electricity like a railgun. --Tano (talk) 13:15, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
New category - pokemon whose evolution methods changed
Since Charjabug use to evolve in magnetic areas but now uses a thunder stone, that makes it one of the few pokemon where the method is different for the same evolution, along with others like feebas. My main question is whether this should be on vikavolts page or charjabugs, and whether it should be phrased as "evolutions that changed" or "evolutions with multiple methods [for the same pokemon]". Pallukun (talk) 21:55, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- It is on the pages, right up the top and in the evolution table. --Spriteit (talk) 13:57, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think there should be a cat page to group them all together. There are cat pages for "part of a two/three/split evo family" even though its written at the top, this is just more organisation. Pallukun (talk) 18:05, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'd suggest Category:Pokémon that have had their evolution method changed to align with Category:Pokémon that have had their type changed, I imagine it should belong on the evolved forms only, otherwise it kinda muddies the purpose of the category a bit. --Spriteit (talk) 23:52, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
