In Pokémon Conquest, most Warriors are based on real-life people who lived in the Sengoku period of Japanese history, upon which the game is based.

In Conquest, these characters' type specialties usually correspond with their historical counterparts' familial or allied relations with the Warlords.

(Trivia: The reason he was chosen to be the player's first ally, apart from Oichi, may be because Takatora was famous for maneuvering himself between daimyo as the tides of war and politics fluctuated, up until he allied himself with Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara, a battle that resulted in Ieyasu's rule over Japan to be at hand (the end of the battle is considered the unofficial beginning of the Tokugawa shogunate, which would last for more than 250 years). Allying with the player in the main story, it implies he is allying with the "winner".)
