Leon's Charizard (Japanese: ダンデのリザードン Dande's Lizardon) is Leon's main Pokémon in the games, anime, and manga.
In the anime
Main series
Charizard is Leon's first known Pokémon, as well as his ace. It is capable of Gigantamaxing. Charizard first appeared during Flash of the Titans!, where it was seen battling against Lance's Shiny Gyarados. Despite the type disadvantage it had, Charizard managed to put up an incredible fight, during which both Pokémon ended up Gigantamaxing, and after an intense battle, Charizard ultimately defeated Gyarados and cemented Leon's spot as the Monarch of the World Coronation Series.
On the next episode, Charizard and Leon battled against Ash and Pikachu in a non-official World Coronation Series battle. Due to its far superior strength, Charizard was able to effortlessly counter all of Pikachu's attacks, while also withstand any attack it did suffer, and ultimately defeat the Mouse Pokémon after both Pokémon Gigantamaxed.
In Sword and Shield, Slumbering Weald!, Charizard stops a rampaging Gigantamax Centiskorch, while also saving Ash and his Pokémon from the powerful enemy. Afterwards, Charizard was tasked with flying Leon around Galar to stop the other rampaging Gigantamax Pokémon that were suddenly appearing throughout the region.
In Sword and Shield... The Legends Awaken!, Charizard was called out by Leon to battle the Legendary Pokémon Eternatus and, after seriously struggling, gained the upper hand. After Leon tried to catch Eternatus, however, it was severely injured covering Pikachu, Cinderace, and Lucario when Eternatus broke out of its Ultra Ball and transformed into its Eternamax Form.
In Meeting Up with the Monarch!, Charizard was used in a World Coronation Series battle against Flint's Infernape, in which it emerged victorious.
In JN115, Charizard was used in the first round of the Masters Tournament against Alain. It was sent out against Alain's Charizard, who Alain would recall in favor of his Malamar, which was swiftly defeated, forcing the two trainers' Charizards to face off. Despite Alain's Charizard Mega Evolving, it was not able to defeat Leon's Charizard, and Leon advanced to the semifinals.
Personality and characteristics
Having been with Leon since the Trainer's childhood, Charizard shares a strong bond with Leon, and Charizard is widely recognized throughout Galar as Leon's most powerful and trusted Pokémon. Charizard's power speaks for itself, as Charizard has been able to overcome numerous type disadvantages, seen when it managed to defeat Lance's Gyarados, a Water-type-type. Its power is noticeably greater than other members of its species, which was demonstrated when it was able to defeat Alain's Mega Charizard X despite being in its base form.
Another trait of Charizard is his tendency to consistantly change it's moveset during each battle, allowing it and Leon to catch their opponents off-guard should their opponents have prepared themselves to counter the attacks Charizard had previously been known to have, and Charizard utilizing a variety of different attacks that it's species isn't normally known to use, such as Dig and Rock Tomb.
