In Generation I only, the chance of a Pokémon landing a critical hit was directly tied to its species' base speed and it was calculated differently between the mainline games and Pokémon Stadium.

Quirks

If a Pokémon with a base speed of 64 (52 in Pokémon Stadium) or higher uses a move with a high chance to get a critical hit, it can reliably land critical hits 99.6%* of the time. The following Pokémon are elegible:
