Metallica is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 1981. They soon gathered a fan-base in the underground music community and released their first album, Kill 'em All off Megaforce Records. In 1986, they recorded the critically acclaimed, Master of Puppets. Master was the band's first gold record and went on to go 6x Platinum. The band soon lost their original crowd in the underground music scene, when in 1991 they generated a new audience with their self-titled album, Metallica. Metallica was the groups most successful record to date and sold a more than of 25 million copies certifying it as diamond by the RIAA. After a turmoil with Napster and a covers album, Metallica released St. Anger in 2003 and Death Magnetic in 2008.
