Name
I thought I read somewhere that one way of transliterating the name would be “Zoroaaku”... “aku” is “evil”, right?( Note, I am NOT suggestinga pagemoeoranything dumb like that, I can clearly see that the official Romaji is Zoroark, I am just talking about name-origin stuff.) --LaprasBoi 11:18, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well on Zorua, they've noted that Zorro is Spanish for fox, which is likely the name origin. With Zoroark, it might be combined with either "Dark" or "Aku", and Zorua might be an altered form of that, similar to Lucario and Riolu. I'm pretty sure I read that transliteration too; correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference in Zorua and Zoroark's names is "aku". Aura-Knight 13:24, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
actually i translated it it really says; Aku Zorro... so litteraly Dark/Evil Fox so... Vkickass 05:03, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Possibly based on a troll?
The face of Zoroark looks to be of a mix of a fox, wolf, and a troll, due to its devilish smile. The pointed muzzle also reminds me of the tengu's. - 050294 19:32, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Height/weight
i noticed that when you convert all of the pokemon's height/weight convert the length in meter to feet and inches it is the same as the us amount. So why doesn't it have it on the page? Zoroark's is 5'03" and it weighs 178lbs 13oz...Vkickass 04:57, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Because there's no official height/weight as dictated by NoA yet. That's why I have the meters- and kilograms-only way: because if we don't know what way Nintendo's gonna round it when converting to English weights, then we can't put it in. TTEchidna 05:35, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

How do we know that there is only one egg cycle? Also, instead of 0 default EVs, shouldn't they be ? each? Redirect "Z" to Zoroark
Shouldn't we make Z a redirect to Zoroark because some people don't know about Zoroark? Spenfen
- I don't agree with you. That Z was used for the movie' purpose only, Z doesn't mean Zoroark (if we talk generally). So, I don't think that we should redirect it. --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 17:24, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
The Werewolf Pokemon
Zoroa is based entirely on a wolf cub rather than a Fox cub, whilst it's evolved form is based on a werewolf for it's posture, and is a common use of name for this kind of creature. - Cynthia149 07:32, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
The new picture
The new version of the Zoroark image that has been uploaded doesn't look that great. It may be bigger than the older version but it's lower quality and distorted around the edges. I'd revert it but I'm not really sure how. Taromon 16:33, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ya sure, I will help you. Just open this link and click on the revert button on the image which you want to use instead of current one and done. --♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 16:38, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Isn't Zoroark the Monster Fox Pokemon?
I Thought Zoroark was the Monster Fox Pokemon and Zorua was the Evil Fox Pokemon. Aren't they? Because there have been a lot of sites that say so.Alpha`s Arceus 21:34, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Zoroark = Shadow Ash?
Now, I'm not saying this is true, this is just something to think about that MAY be a possibility UNTILL the movie's released. I watched the trailer and saw Ash's interaction with his shadow self, and Shadow Ash gave Ketchum the same malicious smile Zoroark is shown to have in it's artwork. Zoroark could possibly be Shadow Ash. This makes sense since Zoroark is the 'master of illusion'.
None of this is proven, just a theory, of course. Something to think about till the movie's premier. - 050294 03:39, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- I think everyone came to this conclusion. Take it to the forums, please. 梅子❄❅ 03:47, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

- The table is only for official sprites.--ForceFire 06:40, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- And doesn't yet have a section for the Gen V sprites anyway, because we have no game names yet. Know how it goes Spr 4h ###.png? We can't have it as Spr 5 ###.png, since one, we don't have any real sprites, and two, that breaks sequence with the other things. Even in 2007 with DP we knew Pt and maybe HGSS were coming, so we had the sprites at Spr 4d ###.png, for when the third version and later came. This, we have no names for the first version, so we can't decide on a gen-game marker (as we have 1b/1g/1y/2g/2s/2c/3r/3f/3e/4d/4p/4h).
- Plus I'm gonna redo the whole template anyway when Gen V comes. TTEchidna 22:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Zoroark & Zordrak!
You Americans may not know this, but over in the UK, I'm getting reports that Zoroark (Knowing that its a mix of Zorro and Dark!) has a similar name to Zordrak, the main villain to a popular show The Dreamstone that came out two decades before Zoroark. Don't believe me, look up on Wikipedia and Youtube and you will see what I mean. In Pokemon comparison, Zordrak, Lord of Nightmares is a cross between Darkrai and Zoroark, whilst for Cresselia, Darkrai's rival would be the Planet Dreamstone for having the same gender and actually fight against Zordrak. - user:Cynthia149
Wow, pretty strange... I know it could be considered that this is just a coincidence, as Zoroark is after all a romanised version of its Japanese name but I just had a check and Zordrak is also a Kitsune. --Chickasaurus 07:55, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's romanized, yes, so it is most likely not connected. We'll see when it is revealed in English. R.A. Hunter Blade 14:03, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- I think it's much more likely that Zoroark's name was based on Roark. (And we all know how likely that is...) 梅子❄❅ 14:33, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Cynthia149 didn't say the name was specifically based on this character, she said it was similar. I don't quite understand what she meant in regards to Cresselia and Darkrai, but in regards to Zoroark this is, if only a coincidence, a pretty substantial one, and perhaps trivia worthy. --AndyPKMN 15:29, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- What I meant to say is that Zordrak is the Lord of Nightmares, and that is what Darkrai is in a way. And the Planet Dreamstone is like that to Cresselia for being the creater of dreams. Even though the Dream Maker is Zordrak's foe, the Planet Dreamstone who has a feminine voice is the one that always tends to fight him, just like Cresselia and Darkrai. - user:Cynthia149 15:39, 10 March 2010

Huge numbers of Dreamstone fans who are also Pokemon fans have pointed out the resembelence in the names of Zoroark and Zordrak. Zordrak name I think is a mix between Zorro(Spanish for fox) and Drako(Latin for dragon). As for Zoroark, they must be very careful on not to upset Cookie Jar who owns The Dreamstone show! - user:Cynthia149 15:47, 10 March 2010
- I doubt they need to do anything of the sort. Zordrak physically resembles Guilmon from Digimon, meaning they can't get him for likeness. Zordrak's name...if they'd hit Zoroark for any resemblance to the name, Zordrak would have to answer to Filmation for similarities to Hordak from She-Ra (equally a villain), and that came out prior to 1990 (the fact that Zoroark is /not/ the same name means there's no claim anyway, and we'll likely keep this name [or wind up with Zoloarc, or some mixture with the letters] making it impossible for a case. Lastly, Zoroark is based on a kitsune, a magical fox that's all about illusions and transformations and disguises. Zoroark has /no/ connections to nightmares and dreams and every bit connected to Japanese folklore, meaning even if there was a resemblance...there's still no case, since the folklore predates this century, never mind this show. This is just fishing on the vaguest connections that you're stretching too far. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 17:29, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hordak and Zordrak have no connection what so ever, it has to be the same sounding like Zordrak and Zoroark or it doesn't count, and despite being the lord of nightmares, Zordrak too is a Kitsune as it can become a purple mist. - user:Cynthia149 19:44, 10 March 2010

I made a clean(er) version of the back sprite for Zoroark. All that was available was ripped from the file "BW Prerelease Battle.png", but no one made a one-to-one pixel rip of it... I did. Maybe it could be put/used somewhere? I plan on making an even cleaner version, akin to the updated Zorua sprite I uploaded. - Nick15 00:48, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- That looks really nice and accurate. Not sure if it should be included or not. I guess we will see what the admins say. Blake Talk·Edits 02:57, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Speculated moves
It's very likely that Zoroark will be able to use Night Slash, Sucker Punch, & Crunch and the Elemental Fangs. While we don't know for sure, it can be speculated that Zoroark serves as a parallel to Lucario in Gen V. If it is an Aura user, then it can use moves like Aura sphere. Because of its bipedal stance, it may also learn some Fighting type moves like Brick Break, Close Combat and Double Kick, although it seems an unlikely candidate for Submission or Superpower. Its flame/smoke-like appearance suggests it could probably learn Will-o-wisp. Some Field/HM moves that are likely going to be available are Headbutt, Dig, Cut, Rock Smash, Strength, & Rock Climb. TM moves Protect, Shadow Claw, Dark Pulse, Double Team, Aerial Ace, Thief, Snatch, Taunt, Toxic, Torment, & Rest are all likely to be among the moves it can learn. As a fully evolved Pokemon, Zoroark will have access to Giga Impact and Hyper Beam. It has a tough appearance so it may be able to use Roar.- unsigned comment from Chaos13 (talk • contribs)
- First, please sign your comments with four tildes (~). Second, all of the things that you mentioned above will be considered as speculation so we can't use that info. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 17:09, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- But that is some very good speculation, I'm sure people would be interested to read it on Bulbagarden forums! Taromon 21:36, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- Looking at the new in-battle screenshot on the official site, does anyone else thing it looks a lot like Dark Pulse? Which, as was mentioned before, would be a very feasible move for a Dark-type anyway. Mattachu 11:51, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
i have an issue
i don't believe the fact that's it's based off the kitsune, that was Ninetails and Vulpix. it was more likely based off the legend of the black fox, an animal that could, in legend, "transform" into other forms, like in the myth of Dartmoor, were after an old woman died in a fire started by a greedy land owner because she refused to sell her land, the man is taunted by a black fox, that when hunting season came around, was hunted by the man and a hunter he hired. The fox led them to the ruins of the lady's house. By the time they got there it was night and a storm started, the hunter and the land owner cornered the fox. as lightning stroke the ground the light illuminated the dark were the fox was, and right before there eyes the fox "transformed" into the old lady (kinda like how Zoroark "transforms" into the beasts and ash) and that "Transformation spooked the horses, so the horses bucked and made the huntsman fall and hit his head. the huntsman before he fell he saw the woman/fox grin like Zoroark does in the trailer. the next day he woke completely alone, even his horse was gone, and the rich man was never seen again... thus the blood-like colored on his mouth and claws, red hair(in the myth the women had red hair before it turned Grey) and the Dark type. makes perfect sense right? say something if I'm wrong. (doubt i am though, i always do my research)Vkickass 21:45, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- It says it pretty damn clearly in the species name that it's the kitsune- ばけぎつね, romanized 'bake-gitsune'. It could be based on that I guess, but.. it's pretty clear the main basis is a kitsune. There can be more than one kitsune Pokémon, yknow. ▫▪Ťïňắ ♫♥ 21:53, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- hey dude kids read this stuff, i got blocked for a day for swearing, i'm sure plus it translates to "FOX WITH MAGICAL POWERS" that may mean the kitsune OR the Black Fox. also i never said that there could ONLY be one Pokemon based off the kitsune, i'm just saying Zoroark or zorua CANT be based off it, i mean the kitsune is White in coloration, Zoroark is black and red. plus, you responeded way to quick to actually read the entire thing, so dont just glance and say smoething is wrong... Vkickass 22:08, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Can you please calm down. Just because Zoroark's black and the kitsune is white doesn't mean that Zoroark cannot be based on a kitsune. Take Girafarig for example. Do Giraffes have two heads?? Pokémon are made up that slightly resemble real-life creatures. Takharii ~ Talk! 22:31, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Vkickass, Tina responded to your message eight minutes after it was posted; it took me about three minutes to read the entire thing. Don't accuse her of not reading it when there was plenty of time for her to have done so.
- As for Zoroark, I am assuming that this myth you are referring to is British? Please recall that Pokemon comes from Japan, and thus it is incredibly more likely for the Pokemon to reference Japanese mythology than little-known (to them) western myths. Kitsune are very well-known for their ability to transform. The red markings on Zoroark's face are incredibly similar to the markings found on kitsune masks used in Noh theatre and such. Unless we are eventually given an incredible amount of evidence that Zoroark is not based on the kitsune, it's pretty much a sure thing that it's based on the kitsune. 梅子❀✿ 22:39, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Some Pokémon are based on European legends, such as Misdreavus, which is based on the Irish legend of the banshee. But banshees are generally white in colour, and Misdreavus is green, so if a Pokémon is based on a mythical creature it doesn't necessarily have to be the same colour. I've heard that there are also certain types on "dark" kitsune which Zoroark could be based on, although I think the Black Fox legend could also be an inspiration, because of there being so many similarities between the story and Zoroark's habits. There are likely many myths and legends of foxes in different cultures. Zoroark could well be based on a combination of all of them, but probably mostly dark kitsune considering Pokémon's Japanese origins. But at the end of the day, who cares? Zoroark is a cool Pokémon regardless of where its inspiration came from! Taromon 13:41, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- ...Misdreavus isn't green...? (Well okay, now that I look at it I guess it's kind of teal. :P)
- But anyway, I wasn't saying that Pokemon are never based on European myths; that would be just ignorant. XD My point was that if a Pokemon is significantly similar to a well-known Japanese mythological figure, but is also slightly similar to some western myth... chances are high that the true origin is the Japanese one. :P 梅子❀✿ 14:53, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Even so, but based on the myths, the kitsune was mischievous, not evil like the black fox. (the Dark types japanese name is Evil type) so it is more likely based on the BF. (i am not one to give up easily)Vkickass 06:53, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- That's not much of an argument, since we don't know if Zoroark are evil. Reign 08:55, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- well we'll have to wait until the movie comes out to see how it acts. but what i've seen from the trailers, it's either: an evil pokemon, or a very defensive parentVkickass
- Even then, the movie's portrayal of Zoroark might not be indicative of the entire species's behavior. And there's a fine line between mischievous and evil anyway, so I doubt its behavior would clear that up. Either way the Kitsune basis is pretty clear, but perhaps we could work in the story of the Black Fox as a secondary origin. --AndyPKMN 18:52, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Spring Heeled Jack
Zoroark could possibly be based on 'Spring Heeled Jack' in English folklore, as it too illusinates and takes the shape of a creature in many forms, some as a wolf, some as a man, some even as a devil or a demon. This scene in Youtube has proof of the identical scenery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZYvD2XsxPo User:Cynthia149 22:08, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's a kitsune. Deal with it. 梅子❀✿ 21:42, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Do we honestly need to post every single generic "transforming fox" legend on here? This talk page is for if anything such as new news come up, but instead everyone's just talking about what it's based on. >____>
- Likely, the only thing we are putting on its origin is a kitsune because it blatantly says that in the species name. That is it. We have basically NO evidence to go on with its behavior and anything else. ▫▪Ťïňắ ♫♥ 21:47, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I for one am sick and tired of their talks about Kitsunes and Foxes, I'm even sick and tired of them taking the name from Zordrak. Foxes, thats all they ever talk about in Japan, foxes, foxes, STUPID STUPID FOXES!!? It's been done, open your eyes, find another hobby? User:Cynthia149 00:00, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- SHUT UP!!? I know it's a Kitsune okay, you don't need to rub it in my face! I still think those stupid Japanese would think of something else than creating a giant Japan in the pokemon world, or even the universe when it comes down to international craize! We know where Japan is, they created an empire to rival the British and Americans for crying out loud, they don't need to rub it in their faces anymore because right now they are starting to get very annoying!!?
Panting in exaspiration before calming down.
There, I finally said it, my apologies User:Cynthia149 00:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- I suggest you change your attitude and quick before you face another block. Do not call a certain group of people "stupid" because they didn't do what you wanted. Japan created Pokémon. Therefore a lot of their insparation come from Japanese culture. Deal with it. Your statements are borderline racist. --ケンジのガール 23:33, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
