Each catch subtemplate, with the exception of the chart-setting header, div, and footer subtemplates, work to create the wild Pokémon availability chart for the main series games. There are some basic parameters shared among them, with some difference depending upon the games that are covered.

Catch/header

This begins the chart. Two parameters may be entered. The first parameter should be the type of terrain the area is. For example, a small town like Pallet or Azalea would use "land", while a big city like Goldenrod or Jubilife would use "building". The second parameter determines whether or not to show the morning/day/night headers. For Generation I and Generation III, set this to "no". For all others, set to "yes".

Catch/div

This divides up a chart. Use to split Pokémon found by walking (in a cave or through tall grass) from Pokémon found by fishing and surfing, and from special even Pokémon, such as legendaries, or Pokémon that can only be caught once, like Rotom. The first parameter should be the same terrain type as in the header, while the second should be whatever should appear as text. Pre-made entries exist for National Dex (enter "National"), fishing and surfing (enter "Fish"), and special Pokémon (enter "Special"). Make every effort to not link in this.

Catchentries

The various catchentry templates begin in the same way, with the Pokémon's National Pokédex number in the first parameter followed by its name in the second parameter. The third through fifth (third and fourth only for remake pairs) parameters may be set to "yes" or "no" in order to indicate if a Pokémon is available in that game, with the third as the first game, the fourth as the second, and fifth as the third version. The sixth parameter (fifth for remake pairs) indicates where the Pokémon is found, and by what method. The seventh (sixth) indicates the levels of the Pokémon. The eighth (seventh) varies among games, being the sole encounter rate for Generation I and Generation III, and indicating the morning encounter rate in other generations, in tandem with the ninth and tenth (eighth and ninth), which indicate the day and night encounter rates. Named parameters, which are optional and should fall at the end, include "all", which, in time-based generations, indicate a Pokémon's encounter rate is consistent throughout the day, "tradenum" and "tradename", which indicate which Pokémon must be traded by the player to an NPC for the Pokémon in question, and most importantly, "type1" and "type2", which indicate the type of the Pokémon.

Alternate forms do not need to be indicated, as the template will determine the forme name depending on the National Dex number input.
