104 connects Petalburg City and Rustboro City. Since you can't surf south from the beach yet, you have no choice but to head north through the Petalburg Woods. <br> Mr. Briney, a famous old sea captain, also lives here.

The tall trees of Petalburg Woods block much of the sun's rays, leaving the interior cool and dark. Smaller trees restrict travel to the western side for now.

The Scuffle
Deep inside the woods, you come across a researcher from Devon Corporation, a company based in Rustboro City. After explaining that he is looking for a Shroomish, he is suddenly confronted by a member of Team Magma/Team Aqua. The thug had planned to ambush the worker when he left the woods, but grew too impatient for that. Defeat him in battle and he flees the scene, but not before hinting that his friends are up to something in Rustboro. The grateful researcher gives you a Great Ball as thanks. He then heals your Pokémon, and rushes off to Rustboro after realizing what his attacker wanted.

Pretty Petal Flower Shop
The Pretty Petal Flower Shop is run by three sisters. The eldest sister teaches all visitors how to grow Berries. The middle sister hands out the Wailmer Pail when you first speak to her. The youngest sister will hand out one random Berry from a group of eight every day.

Deep in the woods, you find a Devon Corporation researcher hunting for a Shroomish when a thug from Team Magma(Ruby) or Team Aqua (Sapphire) assaults him. Beat up the grunt in battle, and he'll run off, swearing revenge. The guy will give you a Poké Ball as thanks, and rushes off to Rustboro City after realizing what is going on. Hike out of the woods, and you'll be on the north side of 104. Talk to the guy near the forest exit to get 09, and stop in the Pretty Petal Flower Shop to learn about all the different kinds of Berries. One of the women inside will give you the List of key items in Generation III so you can tend to your Berry trees.

Rustboro City
After earning the third Badge, the sisters will also offer Pretty Petal Flower Shop for sale.

Rustboro City is the first big city you'll visit. Stop inside the Cutter's house next to the Poké Center, and he'll give you 01, though you'll need this city's Gym Badge to use it outside of battle. Pay a visit to the Pokémon Trainer's School, near the fountain, to brush up on the basics. The Devon Corporation in the northwest is well-known throughout the region for their research that eases the interactions between people and Pokémon. The Rustboro Gym plays an important role in the city's identity as well, so stop by to fight for your first Gym Badge!
Rustboro City
Rustboro City is the third largest city in Hoenn. Each of the buildings were constructed with stone, giving the city an old-fashioned feeling. The Pokémon Trainer's School, Devon Corporation headquarters, and Rustboro Gym are all located here.

Cutter's House
Stop by the Cutter's house next to the Pokémon Center. When the city was expanding, he taught his Pokémon a move to help clear the surrounding land of trees. He no longer needs his 01, and gives it to you. In the field, Cut may be used to clear away small trees and tall grass.

Devon Corporation
Devon Corporation is headquartered in a large stone building in the northwest part of town. The company is responsible for manufacturing many of the items Trainers rely on every day, including several variations of Poké Ball and medicine. Only authorized personnel are allowed past the first floor.

Pokémon Trainer's School
The Pokémon Trainer's School stands to the northeast of the Pokémon Center. Talk with the teacher to receive a Quick Claw, and brush up on the basics by reading the notes on the blackboard.

Time for a Trade
The Rustboro Gym beckons, but before you step inside, visit the house to the east. Inside is a boy who is looking to trade his Makuhita for a Slakoth. Makuhita is a strong Fighting Pokémon that will be a big help inside the Gym. This one is even holding an X Attack to sweeten the deal.

The Rustboro Gym specializes in the Rock, so Grass- and Waters will have the easiest time here. <br>
The Rustboro Gym specializes in Rock Pokémon. Use Grass, Water, and Fighting moves to deal serious damage, and avoid battling with Fire-, Bug-, or Flying Pokémon. As hers is the first Gym in the Hoenn League, this graduate of the Pokémon Trainer's School has opted for a layout that gives novice Trainers a chance to avoid her subordinates and challenge the Gym Leader directly. Use Defense-lowering moves like Leer to soften up Roxanne's rock-solid Pokémon, and moves like Growl to weaken their Attack. As a Pokémon, her Geodude is especially vulnerable to Grass and Water moves, sustaining 4× the normal amount of damage.
Roxanne graduated from the Pokémon Trainer's School and aims to apply the lessons she learned there in battle. She has her Gym set up so that challengers can battle her directly, though it's a good idea to fight her junior Trainers for extra experience. This isn't the most difficult Gym battle, so just use a few Potions when necessary, and the battle will be over soon.

After defeating her, Roxanne awards you with the Stone, which gives your team a slight Attack boost, and allows you to use Cut outside of battle. She'll also give you 39.

When you leave the Gym, head west towards the Devon Corporation building, and you'll see a robbery in progress. Follow the Team Magma/Aqua grunt and that same Devon employee to the north, and the researcher will ask you to recover the stolen List of key items in Generation III. You can't get very far through Route 115 to the north yet, so focus on finding the thug instead. The thief fled down 116 to the east.
After the battle, Roxanne awards you the Stone, which boosts your Pokémon's Attack by 10% and enables the use of Cut in the field. She also gives you 39 as a prize.

Now that you can use Cut (optional)
There are a few more items on 104 and Petalburg Woods that you can pick up.

Stop, Thief!
When you leave the Gym, you witness a Team Magma/Team Aqua Grunt escaping from the Devon Corporation building. That same Devon researcher from earlier is close behind, and chases the thief northward. He loses track of him in the northeast, where the city connects to 116.

Make your way through 116, and you'll soon find the west entrance to Rusturf Tunnel, which links Rustboro in the west with Verdanturf Town in the east. Talk to Mr. Briney at the tunnel entrance; it seems that the thief has added kidnapping to his list of charges. Too bad for him, though - the tunnel project was canceled, so the tunnel is a dead-end!
116 runs east from Rustboro City. The well-traveled path is used by the workers tasked with construction of Rusturf Tunnel, a project that is now abandoned.

Return to the Rusturf Tunnel entrance after delivering the List of key items in Generation III, and you'll find the same Devon employee you helped earlier.  He will reward you with a Poké Ball, and announces that specialized Poké Balls that the Devon Corporation developed are now available for purchase at the Poké Mart. These special Poké Balls can only be purchased in Rustboro City, Verdanturf Town and Mossdeep City.
Kidnap!
When you reach the entrance to Rusturf Tunnel, you find old Mr. Briney near the entrence, crying that the thief kidnapped his beloved Wingull, Peeko!

Rusturf Tunnel
Rusturf Tunnel
The tunnel is fairly small, so you'll see the criminal with Mr. Briney's Wingull as soon as you enter. When you beat the thief, he'll hand over the List of key items in Generation III. <br> Mr. Briney rushes in to check on his Peeko, and they leave for his cottage near the Petalburg Woods. Take the stolen equipment back to the Devon researcher near the city limits, and he gives you a Poké Ball as thanks before taking you inside the Devon Corporation building.
Rusturf Tunnel was a construction project by Devon Corporation that aimed to link Rustboro City and western Hoenn to the rest of the region. The tunnel was nearly complete when Devon's president, Mr. Stone, realized that the work was disturbing the local Whismur population. The project was canceled, though only a small bit of debris, Rock Smash, remained to hinder travel.

The Take-Down
The tunnel is fairly small, so you will find the thief and his hostage shortly after you step inside. Defeat him, and he gives up the Devon Goods before fleeing. The old man rushes in to check on his Peeko, and introduces himself as Mr. Briney before the pair leaves for his cottage near Petalburg Woods.

Rustboro City
Devon Corporation
Devon Corporation
Before you know it, you're on the third floor of the Devon building, the president's office. The researcher asks you to deliver the List of key items in Generation III to the shipyard in Slateport City, before stepping aside so that the president can speak with you.
Now that you have reclaimed the Devon Goods, head back to the Devon Corporation building in Rustboro's northwest corner. The grateful Devon researcher is waiting on the city's east side, and hands you a Great Ball before escorting you inside to meet his boss.

Mr Stone, President of Devon Corporation, thanks you for helping his staff member, and asks you to stop off in Dewford Town to deliver a List of key items in Generation III to his son, Steven. He doesn't expect you to work for free, of course, so he gives you a Shiny new Pokémon Navigator, or PokéNav. Among other things, an important function is a full map of the Hoenn region, which means you won't have any problem finding Dewford or Slateport!
On the third floor, the company president introduces himself as Mr. Stone. He thanks you for reclaiming the stolen parts, then asks for another favor. He doesn't expect you to work for free, of course, and rewards you with your very own PokéNav! In return, he asks that you deliver a Letter to a man named steven in Dewford Town. ====PokéNav====
The PokéNav is a small, electronic device produced by Devon Corporation under the orders of Mr. Stone, who wanted a way to keep track of a Pokémon's feelings. It has four different functions:
* The Map page displays a map of Hoenn, along with the user's current location. It's also possible to zoom in to see a basic layout of towns and cities.
* The Condition page shows a Pokémon's five Contest stats in detail. It can be used to search for party Pokémon, or all owned Pokémon at once.
* The Trainer's Eyes function records data of up to 69 unique Trainers and will alert the user when any want a rematch. The only requirement is that the user must have obtained five Badges.
* The Ribbons page displays all Ribbons the user's Pokémon have acquired. Though hidden initially, this function unlocks when any of the user's Pokémon gains a Ribbon.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
These pages follow the original Game Boy Advance iteration, not Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 104

Route 104

Route 104 connects Petalburg City with Rustboro City to the north and Route 105 to the south. The Petalburg Woods occupy the central part of the area. A cottage belonging to Mr. Briney is located on the south side, and the Pretty Petal Flower Shop stands on the north side.

Petalburg Woods

Petalburg Woods

The tall trees of Petalburg Woods block much of the sun's rays, leaving the interior cool and dark. Smaller trees restrict travel to the western side for now.

The Scuffle

Deep inside the woods, you come across a researcher from Devon Corporation, a company based in Rustboro City. After explaining that he is looking for a Shroomish, he is suddenly confronted by a member of Team MagmaR/Team AquaS.

Berry
Cheri Berry Cheri Berry Aspear Berry Aspear Berry
Chesto Berry Chesto Berry Leppa Berry Leppa Berry
Pecha Berry Pecha Berry Oran Berry Oran Berry
Rawst Berry Rawst Berry Persim Berry Persim Berry

After earning the third Badge, the sisters will also offer decorative plants for sale.

Rustboro City

Rustboro City

Rustboro City is the third largest city in Hoenn. Each of the buildings were constructed with stone, giving the city an old-fashioned feeling. The Pokémon Trainer's School, Devon Corporation headquarters, and Rustboro Gym are all located here.

Cutter's House

Stop by the Cutter's house next to the Pokémon Center. When the city was expanding, he taught his Pokémon a move to help clear the surrounding land of trees. He no longer needs his HM01 (Cut), and gives it to you.

Ailment Effect(s)
BURNED Attack drops to 50%, inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn. Fire-type Pokémon are immune to this condition.
FROZEN Cannot move until thawed, 20% chance of recovery per turn. Ice-type Pokémon are immune to this condition.
PARALYZE Speed drops to 25%, cannot attack a quarter of the time. Electric-type Pokémon are immune to this condition.
POISONED Inflicts damage equal to 1/8 of maximum HP every turn. Poison- and Steel-type Pokémon are immune to this condition.
ASLEEP Cannot move for one to four turns.

Time for a Trade

The Rustboro Gym beckons, but before you step inside, visit the house to the east. Inside is a boy who is looking to trade his Makuhita for a Slakoth. Makuhita is a strong Fighting-type Pokémon that will be a big help inside the Gym. This one is even holding an X Attack to sweeten the deal.

Rustboro Gym

Rustboro Gym

Rustboro City Pokémon Gym
Leader: Roxanne
The Rock-loving honor student!

The Rustboro Gym specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. Use Grass, Water, and Fighting moves to deal serious damage, and avoid battling with Fire-, Bug-, or Flying-type Pokémon. As a Rock/Ground Pokémon, her Geodude is especially vulnerable to Grass and Water moves, sustaining 4× the normal amount of damage.

Rustboro Gym
The Stone Badge

After the battle, Roxanne awards you the Stone Badge, which boosts your Pokémon's Attack by 10% and enables the use of Cut in the field. She also gives you TM39 (Rock Tomb) as a prize.

Now that you can use Cut (optional)

There are a few more items on Route 104 and Petalburg Woods that you can pick up.

Route 104 (north)

Petalburg Woods

Stop, Thief!

When you leave the Gym, you witness a Team MagmaR/Team AquaS Grunt escaping from the Devon Corporation building. That same Devon researcher from earlier is close behind, and chases the thief northward. He loses track of him in the northeast, where the city connects to Route 116.

Route 116

Route 116

Route 116 runs east from Rustboro City. The well-traveled path is used by the workers tasked with construction of Rusturf Tunnel, a project that is now abandoned.

Kidnap!

When you reach the entrance to Rusturf Tunnel, you find old Mr. Briney near the entrence, crying that the thief kidnapped his beloved Wingull, Peeko!

Rusturf Tunnel

Rusturf Tunnel

Rusturf Tunnel was a construction project by Devon Corporation that aimed to link Rustboro City and western Hoenn to the rest of the region. The tunnel was nearly complete when Devon's president, Mr. Stone, realized that the work was disturbing the local Whismur population. The project was canceled, though only a small bit of debris, easily cleared, remained to hinder travel.

Now that you have reclaimed the Devon Goods, head back to the Devon Corporation building in Rustboro's northwest corner. The grateful Devon researcher is waiting on the city's east side, and hands you a Great Ball before escorting you inside to meet his boss.

To reach Dewford, you will need to cross the sea, so Mr. Stone suggests booking passage with Mr. Briney, the friendly old sailor from Route 104.

As you leave, take note of the Scientists on the second floor. None of them are having much luck with their projects, except one, who has developed a device that can resurrect ancient Pokémon from Fossils.

PokéNav

The PokéNav is a small, electronic device produced by Devon Corporation under the orders of Mr. Stone, who wanted a way to keep track of a Pokémon's feelings. It has four different functions:

 • The Map page displays a map of Hoenn, along with the user's current location. It's also possible to zoom in to see a basic layout of towns and cities.
 • The Condition page shows a Pokémon's five Contest stats in detail. It can be used to search for party Pokémon, or all owned Pokémon at once.
 • The Trainer's Eyes function records data of up to 69 unique Trainers and will alert the user when any want a rematch. The only requirement is that the user must have obtained five Badges.
 • The Ribbons page displays all Ribbons the user's Pokémon have acquired. Though hidden initially, this function unlocks when any of the user's Pokémon gains a Ribbon.
