Ancient cards are distinguished by a stony "Ancient" label superimposed on the top right corner of the card art, and a layered strata background adorning the entire right half of the card. Ancient cards are available as Pokémon and Trainer cards; Ancient Pokémon tend to have direct attacks that deal a large amount of damage, while being difficult to Knock Out. Certain attacks, Abilities, and Trainer cards interact specifically with Ancient cards.

Ancient cards can be considered a spiritual successor to the Single Strike style category of cards from the Sword & Shield series.
