Rerun(s) | March 15 to April 8, 2021 August 19 to September 16, 2021 |
Featured sync pairs | Cyrus & Palkia |
New World Dilemma (Japanese: 新世界で交錯する心 Intersecting Hearts in the New World) was the fifth legendary event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pair Cyrus & Palkia. This pair could be teamed up with by completing the final story area of the event, A Perfect, Complete Answer.
During this event, players could earn Prize Coins from battles that could be used to draw items from a prize box pool. If the grand prize was drawn from the prize box, players could advance to the next prize pool. Extra Prize Coins were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
This event featured the Full-Force Battle, where players were challenged to defeat a large group of strong opponents. Similar to the Legendary Arena, players could use multiple teams with a limited number of total sync pairs, with the opponents' health carrying over between rounds and with previously used pairs unable to be used again until the challenge is reset. Medals could be earned by completing specific missions.
This story was added to Legendary Adventures on December 24, 2021.
First run
The event first ran from August 17 to September 3, 2020. The "Sygna Suit Cynthia Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Cynthia & Kommo-o for the duration of the event.
In this run, there were five battles against Cyrus available from the start that the player could complete to earn Prize Coins. The grand prizes in the prize box included area info for event story areas, co-op sync orbs, 5★ Power-Ups, and a 5★ Strike Move Candy. In addition, custom items to unlock Cyrus & Palkia's level cap were available starting from the 5th prize box pool.
Completing each Full-Force Battle rewarded players with a 3★ Strike Move Candy and a 4★ Strike Move Candy, respectively, as well as a medal available through event missions. A third medal was awarded for completing the second Full-Force Battle with 6 sync pairs or less. The other event missions rewarded players with Gems for completing story areas and unlocking Cyrus & Palkia's level cap, and the reward for completing all missions was 300 Gems.
Second run
The event reran from March 15 to April 8, 2021. Cyrus & Palkia's sync grid was expanded in conjunction with the event, and the "Lisia Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Lisia & Altaria from the beginning of the event to March 29, 2021.
In this run, the structure of the event was significantly altered. Rather than pulling area info from the prize box, players alternated between completing story areas and completing event battles until all area info for the event had been unlocked. An additional battle against Cyrus was added, and the stamina cost for most battles was lowered.
Instead of using generic Prize Coins to make pulls from the prize box, Dragon-themed Legendary Prize Coins F were used. The grand prizes in the prize box included 3★ Level-Up Manuals, co-op sync orbs, 5★ Scout Tickets, Custom ★ Power-Ups for Cyrus & Palkia, and a Support Move Candy Coin. As Cyrus & Palkia could now be powered up using regular sync pair items, the prize pools no longer included custom items.
The rewards for completing Full-Force Battles, including the medals rewarded by event missions, were the same as the previous run. All the other event missions were altered. A 1★ medal was added as an event mission reward for completing A Perfect, Complete Answer, and a few missions awarded Gems and 3★ Level-Up Manuals for completing battle areas in the event a certain number of times. Other missions allowed players to obtain three additional copies of Cyrus & Palkia as rewards for leveling up the sync pair to certain levels, and a fourth additional copy for completing all other missions.
If the player had already raised Cyrus & Palkia to maximum potential, exchanges were available in the shop to convert their Custom ★ Power-Ups into 5★ Power-Ups or 3★ Power-Ups.
Third run
The event reran again from August 19 to September 16, 2021. In this run, Legendary Prize Coins M could be used to make pulls from the prize box, and the grand prizes now included 3★ Level-Up Manuals, co-op sync orbs, 5★ Scout Tickets, Custom ★ Power-Ups for Cyrus & Palkia, and a Strike Move Candy Coin. The rewards for completing the Full-Force Battles were changed to a 3★ Tech Move Candy and a 4★ Support Move Candy, respectively; everything else was the same as the previous run.
Plot
Cyrus arrives on the island of Pasio, surmising that Pasio was not the world he desired. He encounters the player and Cheryl on the beach, and Cheryl recognises Cyrus as the leader of Team Galactic whose plans had been foiled in the Distortion World. However, Cyrus denies knowing about the Distortion World, and comments that he had been attempting to make a world without spirit using the powers of Dialga and Palkia, before being interrupted by a mysterious ring which had brought him to Pasio. Cyrus exclaims that he will create a new world regardless of any setbacks. Cheryl and the player attempt to defeat Cyrus in a battle, however they are defeated by Cyrus's Palkia. Cyrus tells them that they had lost because their judgment had been clouded by their spirit, which is a vague and incomplete thing. Cynthia comes to intervene, but Cyrus disappears.
Meanwhile, Cyrus is walking through a forest where he meets Sophocles and a friend's Rotom. The two share a conversation ranging from sync pairs, Pasio, inventions, and Rotom, before Cyrus begins to divulge about the crude and incomplete state of the current world. As Cyrus leaves, Elesa finds Sophocles and brings him to the Pokémon Center where they meet Cynthia and Cheryl. Cynthia predicts that Cyrus will want to search for Lear, in order to obtain the power of the source that had brought him to Pasio. Sophocles, determined to stop Cyrus, joins with the player and Cheryl to find Cyrus.
The three apprehend Cyrus at a desert, however, they soon begin to lose against the legendary Pokémon Palkia. As Cyrus tries to get away, Cynthia, in her sygna suit, and her Kommo-o joins forces with the protagonists. She relays to Cyrus that her strength lies in the bonds that are born from spirit. Cynthia's sync stone begins to glow, and Kommo-o delivers a final blow against Palkia. After Cyrus's defeat, Sophocles comes up to Cyrus and explains to him that though there are sad and lonely moments, the spirit helps them to appreciate the happy moments even more because of this.
