[[Grandpa]] hosts a "test of courage," a challenge in which pairs compete to be the first one to finish a course filled with spooky decorations. While [[Hazel]] is initially annoyed with Grandpa for charging participants, she is happy to learn she can go through it with [[Almond]]. The two are partnered up, as are {{TP|Hazel|Pikachu}} and {{TP|Hazel|Clefairy}}.
 
The pairs begin the course, and while Almond is mostly annoyed with Grandpa's jump scares and other decorations, Hazel gleefully pretends to be scared in an attempt to make him protect her. Meanwhile, Pikachu and Clefairy are genuinely terrified and cling to each other throughout the course.
 
As they carry onward, a dark shadow appears over the four, followed by an eerie sound. Everyone is frightened for a brief moment, but their fear dissolves when Grandpa appears, holding a tape deck. Angered, Pikachu shocks him. When the group continues toward the goal, Pikachu and Clefairy suddenly find themselves surrounded by {{p|Haunter}} and {{p|Gastly}}, and Almond and Hazel see a {{p|Gengar}} behind them. Terrified, Almond takes Hazel's arm and tries to get away from the Gengar. Hazel, however, runs up to hug it.
